I'm looking to get a neck for a mustang. Im on a budget...

I have been looking at a new:

Squier mustang neck vs a all parts jag neck.

Any thoughts? The Squier is ready to go...

I have never used either necks. I like a lot of Squier necks I have...,

The Squier Mustang neck is particularly chunky. It does not really feel like other Mustang necks (Japanese, Vintage, Pawn Shop).

I would probably get a Squier Jaguar neck on eBay. They are less than $100.

If an Ibanez Wizard is a 1 on a 10-point chunkiness scale and a 50s Tele is a 10 and a Standard Strat is a 5, then:

Fender HH Jaguar Special - 6.5
Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang - 5.5
Squier Mustang - 5
'65 RI - 4
'69/'73 RI (my fave) - 3.5

I don't know where the All Parts JGRO fits in that scale because I've never tried it. That said, I think the Squier Mustang neck is very nice. It feels more like a Strat neck than a Mustang neck in terms of dimension (b/c thickness and radius), but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You will be able to do whole step bends on the high E string, which is always a bit of a challenge on a 7.25" radius Mustang neck. You just have to make sure and get a 9.5" or adjustable radius bridge... which does matter.

I think it mostly depends on your playing style and preferences. That said, I prefer it when neck and bridge match.

Also, great chunkiness chart. I think the Jag-Stang would be a 3?

Well I think if you are to have mismatches in radius, it's a lot better to err in the other direction, to be flatter at the bridge. In fact, some even prefer it so as to get greater bending ability on the E strings. Also, I think the difference between 7.25" and 9.5" feels a lot bigger than 9.5" and 12".

Good point. Never had a problem with the radius mismatch on a KC Mustang or a MIJ Mascis. However, I put a vintage Mustang bridge on a Squier JM and the mismatch was noticeable. Nothing a pair of washers couldn't fix, but still...

Is there a drop-in bridge replacement for Teh Kurdts with the correct radius yet? Don't care if it's TOM.
I still get buzzing on that thing from time to time.
