I have an idea for a JB Hutto style guitar. I am not a fan of fiberglass, so I asked Cooterfinger if he could make me a body out of poplar. I don't want the little knobs, but I wanted to keep the upper toggle (I want to use a tele switch) and master volume. I want all the things pickguard mounted, so the guard will be slightly different. This is the basic idea. (Except I am painting it white with a black pickguard.)

Here is the neck he worked on that I am going to use for it.

Also going to have a TOM and a Bigsby tremolo on it. Should be cool. I am going to put a set of HB size P90's in it. :)

Very cool. :D if hack white didn't crush the resale value of those vintage ones I'd be all over an og one. Can't wait to see it when it's done.

Just picked up white pickup rings and a set of old Greco humbucker sized single coil pickups.

Pics of the possibly Greco pickups. Both read the same resistance.

Designed a decal. Think it will be classy. I will do some black like this and some silver and decide once I am at that point. :)

Yeah, I asked him if he was sure he wanted to do that because it'll probably cut the resale value in half.

This is great! Love these old styles, but playability of those old guitars is always questionable.

Thanks! This isn't the first of this type of job for me. I like asking cooterfinger to make me bodies like old ones that look cool, but tend to have issues. My hope is my changes make it look similar to the originals, but play more like something modern. :)

Cooterfinger is a building machine. :D Just needs the guard and tele switch pickguard part to be ready to rout for switches and such.

Poplar's a good choice...light, soft. (Your piece has unusually nice grain & color...I refin'd my Mustang and the Poplar was butt ugly.)

It looks great. Any idea how heavy it's going to be? I can't wait to see this finished.

I finished up the body routes yesterday and it's actually a pretty light body.
I'm looking forward to seeing it finished too. 8)

Wow super impressed. It looks better each time I see it. Now I just need to do my best work painting it. LOL Cooterfinger did a fantastic job. I love how the pickguard ended up looking. The switch piece also looks great. Should turn out awesome. Very classy.

I stained the back of the neck a bit to give it a tint.

(After)

Then I sprayed some white on the body to kind of act as a primer and sealer. I will sand it some more tomorrow and add some more coats.
