I got an email from Roland about the new JC40 Jazz Chorus.

I'd love a loud clean amp that's easy to transport and doesn't way a ton, could this be it?

Interesting that it has the full effects section of the big one. Usually the lower models like the JC20 and JC55 have less controls and effects options. Curious if it's digital or analogue.

Looks pretty good... I wonder if 40 SS watts will be loud enough for small gigs

Also, not sure when they'll actually be available

for £575 you can get a used jc120... also is ss 40w enough to play with a drummer? I guess it might be. If it was cheaper and I could use it in a band I would definitely be interested.

A 1x12 40w combo used to do me fine in my open mic pub night days, so I expect a 2x10 should do the job too with no trouble.

What's the deal with the different versions over the years btw? Do they sound much different from how they used to? I read one commenter somewhere say that the old ones sounded better because they used discrete trannies rather than ICs, but that could be typical Cork Sinffer Person On The Internet BS.

From what I've read elsewhere, the effects will be DSP(digital).

Hopefully is affordable. Miss my old JC-160 and my Peavey just shit the bed.

61lb vs 75lb? Thats a sizable difference.

seeing the vox as 70.99lbs and jc120 as 62lbs on the line

i don't know tbh i just did a cursory google cos it sounded heavy. its at least heavier than a hrdx and a 4x10 bassman

i seem to have the idea in my head that solid state amps should be quite a bit lighter and more utilitarian than tubes amps of a similar configuration. guess i'm wrong.

Should at least be lighter by an output transformer, but probably depends on a bunch of other factors like the cabinet thickness and the weight of the speaker.

^I agree, 'cause a Twin Reverb or AC30 is amusingly only about 8 lbs lighter than the full-on Marshall 1960 4x12, but Roland Jazz Choruses are built like tanks with a big chassis so I can see them being almost as heavy as a Twin.
