I'm wanting a new pickguard for my Tele. I haven't played it in years, partly because it lives at my parents' house and partly because it looks like a car crash, so I'm trying to make it look less like a car crash.

Is there a specific shape I need for an Affinity Tele? Is there much variation in shape, or should it be fine as long as I get one with the right number of screw holes?

Allparts UK doesn't seem to offer any different shapes for Chinese/American/Japanese/Mexican whatever, so I'm guessing there might be no difference?

Would this be ~fine~ for example?

Seems more promising than Allparts as it specifically mentions Squier. Shipping from the US is a bit of a ballache though...

I changed the pickguard on a Squier Standard Tele with a Fender one... they weren't the same shape (especially on the lower horn, the Squier guard was all funny and skinny there) and the holes didn't match up at all, but the Fender pickguard actually suited the body better than the Squier one (in terms of the full/exact Fender look).

My Standard was a 2004 made in Indonesia so I'm sure lots has changed since then, plus the Affinity is a different model... but I'm pretty sure they have the same body (it was definitely thinner than a Fender).

I buy all my pickguards from these guys... Have used their stuff on squires and various other fender type guitars

I remember this Telecaster getting covered in paint for a video. What's the current state of it?

stupid question, but have you tried removing the plastic film on the scratchplate?

it really isn't that obvious there is one on all the models as sometimes it just looks like there isn't one, but there is.

What colour and pickup config do you want? I have a couple of spare tele pickguards at home.

I thought tele bits were pretty much interchangeable, i've not had any issue fitting pickguards to either of mine. Drilling new screw holes to fit a pickguard is super easy though.

I've had a few pickguards from Axesrus, they're about 15 quid and do the job nicely.

The guitar itself isn't too bad, only a few bits of acrylic paint from *that* music video (which unfortunately is no longer online). It's just that the pickguard is covered in stupid doodles in marker pen which I thought were a good idea when I was 16. It looks like shit.

J7, I have no preference colour-wise, and it's just standard Tele configuration. Are the pickguards you have for Squier or Fender or do you not think it really matters?

seriously, I just got a Classic Vibe tele and wasn't even sure it had it on there, but I left it on because the cool sticker is on it. you can't even tell by looking, only by scratching at the edges and even then it's hard to see as it doesn't come out so easily.

I think I bought them for my Fender, but the same configuration fits my Squier Classic Vibe 50's and 60's. I have a BWB one and I think a white one.

It would seem to me that Classic Vibes aren't typical of Squier; it looks like they use enough parts from other Fender factories/3rd party bits that they have more in common with Mexico/USA Fenders than most Squiers do. I have noted that the '60s Tele bodies have the exact same CNC routes and tooling marks as an MIM Standard Tele, which Affinity and Standard Squiers don't... and MIMs and Squiers use identical pre-wired control plates with the same colour-coded wires and green chicklet caps and all, most likely assemblies delivered from the same Asian factories as what are slapped on the cheapest Squiers.

Hell Ive got to have like 3 affinity tele plates you can have. Idk how much shipping would be, but you cover it and they're yours

I have had this guitar for nine years and I promise you that the plastic film is no longer on the pickguard... ha.
