Need an acoustic sound for a couple of tunes at an upcoming gig and am not into taking more than my telecaster, anyone tried one of these pedals and are they any good?

General concensus is no, but it depends greatly on the amp you're plugging into and also the guitar. Stay away from the behringer one, bought one once and it was DOA, just made awful garbagy sounds.

Boss is probably the best bang for buck.

I bought a Boss AC-2 years ago and used to use it for adding "acoustic" guitar parts to recordings. To be honest it wasn't really going to fool anyone who listened closely but sounded decent enough for my purposes. There's a newer one they do now so that might be better. Think there's also a Mooer clone that's probably cheaper.

It sounded better with single coils than with humbuckers and was better DI'd than through an amp.

Kevin Shields uses one. Probably for some fucked up noise thing though rather than to simulate an acoustic.

I know Robin Guthrie used to use heavily processed acoustic guitar on Cocteau twins records maybe Shields uses it for that kind of sound without the need for an acoustic...

Had a listen to a few demos on the youtube and think a pedal will suffice in the mix with everything else...

I have the Boss AC-3 pedal. When connected to a bright solid state amp or straight into the mixing desk or even better, when connected to an acoustic amp it sounds pretty convincing. when connected to a tube amp it sounds less like an acoustic guitar.

There are more cheaper options out there, I suggest you check youtube for that. But the great advantage of the Boss Ac-3 is that you have two output ports. One for the direct sound to your electric rig and one to another amp or to the mixing desk for the acoustic sound. So by stepping on the pedal you can switch between your electric sound and acoustic sound.

Of coarse when you want to use only one amp you can simply put it in your effect chain. The ac-3 also has a pretty good digital reverb build in to resemble the natural spaciousness of an acoustic guitar.

I've only had experience withe Boss AC-2, which I found to be a neat approximation of a mic'd acoustic guitar. It doesn't sound just like one, but will add the vibe that you're going for. I know nothing about the newer Boss AC-3, other than its not regarded very well on the Boss forum and that it is also COSM, whereas the AC-2 isn't
You can pick up a used AC-2 for practically nothing.

But the Ac-2 has no reverb built in, which is a great improvement on the Ac-3.
