I'm in the UK, Looking for a Squier Bronco or something similar, to mod and faff about with, any other cheap reccomendations?

Anything to avoid?

Even considered a Harley Benton PB Shorty from Thomann £60 delivered..........might be a good modding platform....

I'm putty in your hands

Thanks for that BearBoy, they look really quite attractive and tempting, however I like to mod my guitars, it would seem a shame to throw a good percentage of one of those away.........but I must admit, I'm GASsy!

I know what you mean but lots of people do mod them, however. They take standard P and J bass pickups so you have a vast range of options to choose from. Have also seen people swap out the bridge, tuners and electronic, not to mention the cosmetics.

Seen lots of modded Squier Broncos too though and you can probably pick one of those up for super cheapz.

The best :D

They're a legit great bass, not even a great cheap bass, but great and inexpensive. The price point makes modding quite a bit more palatable too. As mentioned, there are a lot of possible options with the standard pickup configuration, let alone if you start really digging in there, routing and the like.

Or just outside the US?? I've never come across a Mustang Bass for less than about $700 in Canada.

Oh the sacrifices for cheap Mustangs...
Rob does seem to have a knack for finding these guitars cheap, though.

Mustang Bass RI used to be relatively cheap when they were like only $699 new. You'll never find them for that kind of price anymore. As their new price went up, so did the used.

Well, after much thought I bought a Shortscale PB from Thomann, their own brand Harley Benton. £65/€89/$99, delivered to the UK!

I'm not expecting the quality to be massive, but previous reports suggest the neck and body of their guitars are not too bad and as I intend to mod it, it seems pointless replacing good stuff with more good stuff........

So initial thoughts are

Remodel the headstock to Telebass shape
Fret dress/check string height at the nut
Stainless flatwounds
Make a new scratchplate to take a Strat Rail type Humbucker, I have plan for the scratchplate, but need to do a test run.....
Complete rewire with CTS etc
Strip and repaint.....

Should be fun!

I'll post progress

Paul
