Okay, so I asked this question recently, but I've now got some money burning a hole in my pocket and I've whittled the number down to two candidates.

I'm leeeaaaaning toward the Hofner, if only for the fact that it actually looks "cleaner". Except it also looks very easy to mod with a bigsby, too, if I really wanted to.

You were looking at the Revelation before weren't you? Was there something that changed your mind that time?

Plusses and minuses. I'd forgotten about the Hofner, and hadn't realised how much they'd come down in price. Plus... it's a Hofner. Good name. Not much fiddling about. I like the Revelation because it looks like a Les Paul, therefore a somewhat no-nonsense guitar, something I don't reeeeally have outside my Modern Player Jazzmaster, but then it has those fat lo-impedance pickups with something like 300 pickup combination settings... so, fiddly.

So I dunno. Also, I saw videos of the other guitarist in Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats playing the Hofner. I liked the Hofner before the Revelation, too.

Basically, the Revelation will be able to do what the Hofner does and more.

But the Hofner is a Hofner and looks cool as fuck to me.

First one is bigger and possibly heavier. Don't know how thick the Höfner is.

I don't know if this helps any, but I've ordered pedals from Hot Rox UK and have had a good experience with them. I didn't return anything because everything was fine.

Played one (unplugged) in Wunjo, based on my interest in them too; motherfucker is wide and HEEEEAVY. Probably one to try out before splurging; to me, it felt like it had been over-inflated.

The Hofner is a far nicer looking guitar. It's solid, so I'd check the weight, but it looks much less ungainly than the Revelation.

Personally (and maybe it's because I really want an original Framus Hollywood which is hollow) I'd like the Hofner more if it were hollow. Like this one- I mean look at those knobs!

Them Revelations way a fucking tonne, like two Les Pauls glued together with a sheet of lead in the middle. Some decent sounds in them though.

I think the Hofner looks more classy, like it's not trying too hard to look cool.

The hofner looks tiny had a look at a couple if videos on youtube, one of those guitars that'd look like a toy in my hands.

I'm liking the revelation because of the obvious inspiration from the les paul recording model. I think it does the control panel better than the gibsons, but the knobs seem to throw off the balance even though they're probably in the same spot and the lack of pickguard material is what's making it seem like space is wasted. As for the Hofner, it looks very classy, especially the fingerboard and headstock detailing but like the revelation, I'm a bit thrown off by the knob placement.

There are those bigsby vibramate adapters that you could use for the revelation if having a bigsby becomes a big deal.

Both of the guitars are mahogany with a separate wood top (spruce on the hofner, sapele on the revelation) so I imagine both are probably pretty heavy and close in weight since neither mention chambering. The hofner seems much more like a "no nonsense" type of instrument.

Dunno if it's a good price/bad price/not at all what you were interested in, but this was in a local pawnshop.

They also have an Aria Pro II Metal Out Your Ass Pointy Yoke for about two-hundred, but it's been there over a year and my first pay cheque is destined for it...

That's a slightly different model, it might actually be one of the more expensive ones, designed to look more like a vintage model with the plastic control plate and everything. So that price is possibly pretty good.

Something quite awful occurred over last weekend and I'm concerned it's going to be expensive, so it's on the backburner for the next month, but I might still pick one up before Christmas. Look out for stuff going up in the Classifieds.
