NBD - Rickenbacker 4003 (now with Pics/video Demo)

Post by Nick »

I just put a deposit on a 1997 Rickenbacker 4003 bass. Fireglo. Mint w/OHSC. Not a scratch or buckle rash on it.

I'd show off pics but the shop took it off their website already. I've wanted one my entire adult life but I was never in the right place/time to move on the right one...some time ago I've put it out of my mind, convincing myself that I'm not worthy enough of a bassist to have such a thing...sometimes I looked for Grecos and Ibanezes but know it would bother me not having a real one, as nice as those are. But this one came up and I have just enough stuff to sell that I shouldn't need to pay anything out of pocket. I should have it in about 2 weeks. Don't like disclosing price but it's somewhere between the going rate of a Greco copy and a real Rick in really rough shape.

Yeah, a 4003 is probably the end of my 4-string list... maybe add a Godin A4 fretless ;) Though I'm a bass player primarily, my "want" list for bass is significantly shorter than my want list for guitars.

Like you, I've put the 4003 off in the "never gonna happen" pile, but, you're giving me hope ;)

Nice, 4003 is a proper bit of kit. Pics and demo when it arrives...

Awesome! If I ever did bass full time in a band a 4001 or 4003 would be my first choice for sure. After playing an old one once nothing compares at all, other basses just feel chintzy compared to them.

Edit: you gotta do Scott Pilgrim fuzz bass riffs too.

I should have it by next week sometime if all goes well. The latest I'll have it is the 6th, in 11 days.

Starting to regret listing my Jazz bass on eBay with the Fender Suede Premium gig bag. I mean MIM Jazz basses will come and go but that was the best gig bag I've ever owned ever, and they don't make em anymore. no bids yet, still time to swap it with a roadrunner if there's no bids by tomorrow afternoon. Or should I just keep it with the sale because it might be what pushes the right bidder over the $400 mark ($100 profit for me) ?

Swap it for a Roadrunner if you can. Sounds like a sweet bag. Worthy of a sweet bass.

Shit you not I went to Guitar Center the day after picking this up and they had a Comp CAR Mustang bass for $500 that I nearly bought.

I actually really like the Scott Pilgrim movie, but it was Haruko Haruhara that first introduced me to this instrument, before I discovered how many of my favorite bass players used one at some point before retiring to boring p/j types.

Ha!!! It would be awesome to have CAR Mustang Bass. But if I were you...it would be too cool for me to have both Rick 4003 and CAR Mustang

I fell in love with the film immediately after watching the openning scene with the band rehearsing. Everything, the picture, the sound, the characters were perfect. Only later I found out that the director of it was Edgar Wright, Nigel Godrich was in charge for the sound and Beck the one who wrote most of the songs.
Also I liked the fact that all actors, apart from Cera, had never played instruments before and were taught how to play all the parts of all songs that they are playing during the film. That gives a hope to such a mediocre musician as me

It's a wicked comic book Sunshiner, so if you like comics it's worth checking out. However, the film totally did it justice, so you're not missing out.

Sorry for the derail Nick.

Great demo, Nick. Disorder is the perfect song to play on that thing.
