Didn't Johnny Marr give 2 Les Pauls to his brothers mate? A '58 and a '60 I think.
His Brothers mate was Noel Gallagher. And the fucker smashed one of them using it as a weapon!

T'was a refinished '59, that got broken. The other was a seventies LP Custom.

That top is so unusual and cool. Perfectly imperfect.

But not for $244k

Original vintage 1959 Gibson Sunburst Les Paul Standard, 8lbs 7oz, has the slimmer late '59 neck profile but not a full 60 profile, original finish, no breaks, original frets, original PAFs, original plastics throughout, has changed tuners (originals will go back on), snakebite, changed bridge posts, original ABR-1, changed pots (used as a touring guitar with The Pretenders in the late 80's). No overspray or any other funny business, just a good honest 'burst and soon to be featured in Vic's Burst Believers III. The guitar has a beautiful unique figured top, faded to a perfect green ice tea colour. It plays and sounds wonderful, just as you'd expect with a real slinky feel. A very vibrant and responsive burst. Has it's original brown Stone case with 'The Pretenders' stencilled on the front. Owned and used by Johnny since 1987 and comes with full handwritten provenance from Johnny Marr. Price is firm at £160,000 GBP (approx $244,000).
What is snakebite?

The two little holes caused by a Bigbsy, apparently.

No, me neither.

i wonder just how much the following affects the value for collectors:

- changed tuners
- bigsby holes
- non-original bridge posts
- stencilled case
- probably non-original wiring in places

a lot i'd guess

Depends if you're collecting it because it's a '59 Les Paul or because it used to belong to Johnny Marr I guess (assuming he made the changes/they were on it when he was using it).

Same shop is selling a 1964 Strat that used to belong to Johnny Marr, and before that John Entwhistle.

Much cheaper at only £17k.

tit for tat i dont imagine the johnny marr name is worth a lot to collectors who can afford these things (yet)

a pre cbs strat like that without famous owner you could be looking at up to £25k if its got case and candy i think.

minty 50s les pauls without famous owner can run upward of £250k i'm pretty sure

Probably true dat George.

I pay zero attention to vintage guitar pricing (at least not the silly money stuff) so have absolutely no idea what the going rate for this type of thing is.

Although our pig fucking PM is supposedly a massive Smiths fan and he's got the cash.

i bet that weedy kid whos the most hated man in america at the moment has enough money too, and a soft spot for the smiths because he likely worked backwards from the emo bands he likes and their influences

I concede to your superior knowlege 8)
That's something to regret; smashing a '59 Les Paul!
I remember from an interview I saw on Youtube that the second one was really heavy, so a '70s Les Paul fits that description

From the thread title, I thought there was going to be a Johnny Marr signature model coming.
Though a red 355 with Bigsby might be more appropriate.

Can so see Noel as a brother's mate.
