Hello my name is James, I am new to this today and very excited to find a website to talk about guitar projects that I am really into and guitarist which I love and my family or friends don't really care much for.
I have a question about the 65 re-issue Fender Jaguar I am doing a build, and I want to order from stew Mac the proper size Pearl I have a question about the 65 reissue Fender Jaguar I am doing a build, and I want to order from stew mac the proper size pearl inlay dot inlay for the Allparts Jag neck in binding now, and before Re Fretting I always would do block inlay, but if guess the "DIAMETER OF 65 RI models dot diameter" which I'm guessing the are probably 7 or most 8mm.
I checked every seller on eBay for specs, they just write, BIGGER Pearl dot inlay, same w/ every site I can find that's sell the 65 RI Jag.
Even googled " does anyone know the standard diameter of a 62 RI Jag or know the diameter of the 65 RI , no answer of that question shows anywhere, I guess when I call stew Mac my supplier of the tools and binding supplies, not Celluliod sheets to cut blocks out of, I get that from " philly luthiers". But I guess when I call stew Mac again to make my order for the dot inlay and I guess when I call stew mac again to make my order for the Pearl not pearliod dot inlays, because it says under specs of the 65 reissue that it has pearl because it says under specs of the 65 reissue that it has pearl dots, not pearliod , i'll have to ask them what their opinion is on it maybe you should send them an email of an image of the 65 reissue neck and Towards the front heel of the Jaguar neck the dots are so big they touch the top and bottom frets.
I want to make them as big as possible I like that look since it came out just I don't want them to be too big especially at the heel of the neck.
If anyone knows the standard that I am in there and can let me know, I can probably estimate the diameter by looking at it and pictures based on the standard size . I would really appreciate a reply on this because I am about to order them or at least I want to order them today later on because I'm about done binding the neck and before Fretting id prefer to drill out the stock grey dots and install the Niger Pearl dots, just wish this allparts neck had the 12th fret dots closer together like the 65 RI , though if they are bigger I can imagine they will look a bit closer , or I can drill out some of the 12th fret grey existing dots, and fill the rosewood in with rosewood the came of while routing the binding channel , I actual carve first after scoring my lines top and side, exacting blade carve as much as I can for the binding channel, than use a smal dremel router bit gives me rosewood dust, than finally file up & down the channel to assure it is perfectly fish and sand a bit for bindings to glue & stick better. So I can fill in the 2 12th fret dots in again, with the left over rosewood chips and dust glued in and make the Pearl dot inlays closer together
Repaired plenty mistakes long time ago starting out doing block inlay that way with gaps
But my question/topic most importantly is can any one help me in telling me the standard size of a 62ri jag or the 65 RI jag would be the best answer because duplicating the allparts neck identical to the 65 RI hopefully if I get the correct dots, even have the exact decals I got on a site everyone said was bogus and about ten or more people on some bass forum kept saying Guitar Centro for fender decals is fake after I typed in ," if guitar centro Fake cuz 2 days and no tracking I requested from them via email, not even a reaponse from a few emails, got nervous cuz their guitar section & case section has 3 of each and if you click on it, says " item not found", every post on Google says STAY AWAY FROM THAT BOGUS SITE,
This is my next topic if interested in where to get great decals and recieved them in 3 days along with 15 extra I didn't even order
Anyways I explain that situation next
If anyone knows the diameter of 65 RI jag or jazz please let me know, I've never installed any inlays but vintage correct Celluliod block inlay otherwise I'd know.
Thanks
James

65 reissue jag peal dot inlay diameter?
I do custom guitar binding block inlays on necks decals clear coat wets and really good looks like glass restorations and mods
So I don't have a 65 jaguar reissue, but I took a screen cap of the neck and scaled it up in a photo editor to make the nut 1.650" (42mm). I then dragged over some guides and got an estimate of about 8mm (roughly .315").
There's an interesting bit of info on the stewmac clay dots page:
"A little history: Clay position dots were first used by Fender in 1959, with the introduction of rosewood fingerboards on their instruments. Clay dots were discontinued in early 1965 and replaced by slightly larger 9/32" (7.14mm) pearloid dots."
So like you guessed, original 65 jags had dots a little over 7mm and the reissues seem to have dots at a max of 8mm.
I'd still wait to hear if anyone can measure a real reissue jag for you though.
