Over the last few weeks I've picked up a few new items. Well the first one isn't new, it's actually my old 62 ri Strat that sailed off with Hurb and eventually returned via Markleton of this very parish. It's a fat necked beauty and I really missed it.
Recently my Melodymaker love was reignited when HNB posted up his white one for sale. Sadly the damned atlantic ocean, shipping and possible import fees meant that particular guitar was off the table. Luckily a few weeks later one popped up locally for an amazing price. I had originally planned to pop a second pup in it (most likely a little routing for a p90 in the bridge and sticking the single coil in the neck) however the sound at the moment is great (like a Tele meets Gibson) so it'll stay as is for now. Maybe I'll mess with it when it gets a bit more dinged up. It's pretty cherry right now.
And just today I FINALLY managed to find an SG I liked for a great price. It's a 98 SG X. In ebony with a fat neck and an ebony board. It has a couple of dings but is in great shape overall. These only have a single pickup (usually a 900T) and a coil split toggle. This one doesn't have the original pickup. It has a black SD Invader. The invader managed to get me a bit extra off the price as they're pretty much hated by most people. To my ears it actually doesn't sound all that bad. The coil tap isn't wired up right now so I don't know how it sounds split.
The SG has become my new project. It'll be getting routed for a neck P90 as soon as I have the time. I'll stick with a master tone/vol and put the toggle where the cloi split is right now to avoid any extra routing. I also have a spare Dimarzio HB that I can stick in there if the Invader doesn't stay. I might stick a black guard on there too. Just to match everything else on there.
Heres a quick photo of each.
