Well, as some of you know, I've been doing pretty okay lately. I moved to Detroit, got a real job (if you'd call being a journalist a real job) and have been getting my adult finances in order.
'
So I decided to fuck it all up, and buy a used Fiesta Red MIM Classic '60s Jaguar off reverb. Dude is somewhat local, so I'm gonna snag it tomorrow and will post pics.

I'm so stoked, I've always wanted a Jaguar. Got an alright deal, not a super great one, but I'm pretty happy with it.

A lot. It's got a deep history of automotive and music culture, as well as some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the country. Had I not gotten a job here, I'd have likely moved to Detroit anyway. I've always looked at it like the cool brother of Chicago.

I'm being utterly facetious of course. Detroit seems to be bouncing back really well, and local journalism will always be necessary. Can't wait to see you gentrify the place with that sweet new guitar!

I actually saw some show (Bordain perhaps?) about hipster bars springing up all over Detroit's central neighborhoods. I don't know much about what's happening there, but I'd be interested to hear about it.

Also, congrats on the guitar... I dig those Classic 60s Jags... great necks, great pups, and oh man... Fiesta Red FTW!

Home of the gories, blast some fuzz through it and channel your gories and mc5 tones. Detroit is dope as fuck. Love the classic series, especially those lacquer ones, the smell compared to the poly fenders is worth the extra money.

Singlepup, that's totally a thing. If you watch south park, it's eerily similar to the Sodosopa episode (or however it was spelled). There are a ton of "cool" bars opening up around the greater Detroit area. There are a few suburbs that are also capitalizing on the influx of food and booze culture.

Steve, I work for a print magazine. You're not wrong about it being a dying industry. We've got a pretty sound subscriber base, but I know a few notable magazines that are on the edge. It's a scary career path, but I think it'll be rewarding in he long run. If nothing else, I'll have a bunch of weird stories to tel folks. Detroit, on the other hand, is thriving. Property values in the city are skyrocketing. I'm making a decent wage, and I'm already pushed out of the places that I want to live. I was looking at houses on the east side, and they've been climbing steadily for the year I've lived here. It's astounding.

I wish! This has been the first month I've been home for most of it. The past three months have been non-stop travel and work. It's to be expected -- the summer is the really busy time. I should start hitting up more Shortscalers when I'm in y'alls neck of the woods.

Jcyphe, you actually kind of have a point, ahah. I can't think of too many Detroit bands past or present that haven't been fuzzy and loud. Some solid bands around here though -- Bison Machine is p good, as is Mexican Knives.

Anyway, super hyped to pick up this guitar and icybomb this thread.

Woah. Okay. So, I went out to western Michigan and snagged this thing Saturday. The guy I bought it from apparently posts on Offset, but I didn't catch his username. What I did catch, was that the dude is a total gear geek.

Anyway, this lil guy had a Mustang bridge in the reverb pictures but had a Jag bridge when I went to pick it up. No harm, no foul. He said it had custom wound Novaks in it, and I kinda didn't believe him (because who would do that?).

I got home. Played it for like three hours, and then started tearing it apart. I bought a cheap-ass mint "AVRI" guard off reverb, and it didn't fit. In a perfect act of drunken idiocy, I took out my pocket knife and made it worse. I also bought aged covers, but didn't think they'd match the default white guard -- so, I didn't waste my time tearing apart the wax potted pickups. Turns out, they are either Novaks, or some dude really likes blowing guitars apart and writing on Jaguar claws.

Anyway, also while buzzed up, I snapped these pictures! It was dark, so they turned out kind of crummy, and I've been busy after work the past few days. Will take some more shots when the weather is good again!

I haven't had a chance to really rip it yet, because my practice amp and Deville are both at my parent's house in Indy. Might try to snag them both this weekend tho.

Also, gonna see what's up with actual Fender branded mint guards. Was also thinking about maybe buying some witch hats, but I don't know how they'd look with the chrome control plate. Thoughts?
