picked up new guitar today after work and it is truly a mixed bag-- shipped to store from factory, so I unboxed it and it was really exciting, etc

basics: the orange duo is beautiful, and it sounds amazingly trashy through a rat and a 15 watt tube amp




HOWEVER, FUCK FENDER MEXICO FOR BEING SO DAMN SLOPPY WITH THEIR QA


out of the box the selector switch is dodgy and 25% of the time the bridge pup cuts out when u switch to bridge position -- ok fine i can rewire a brand new guitar...

and no attempt at intonation has been made

I haven't bought a new guitar in about a decade but I cannot imagine anyone thinking this shit is OK

I get that its a cheap guitar and I am in love with its sound and the feel of the neck but I am deeply annoyed at how sloppy and careless fender MIM seem

Epilogue: I called and Guitar center have promised to rewire it for me and I am going to try to get a free setup out of them since the pickguard isnt even screwed down ...fucking clowns

Looks so damn hot. It's all I can do to not buy one myself. I LOVE my CV duo. So I guess I prob don't need one of these.

Have been wanting to play one, and went to Guitar Guitar in Camden to try one out, but the shop assistant asked my wife to move from a stool she was sitting on so some soft teenage lad could try an epi LP. There were loads of stools. TALK TO MY WIFE AGAIN AND I'LL KILL YOUR WHOLE FAMILY YOU 2ND RATE SAD SWEATY GUITAR SHOP CUNT.

I dig the look but yeah, I'm not impressed at all with Mexican Fenders, least not for the money they charge. Squier Classic Vibes are a much better guitar especially considering price.

When you get into the guts I'd be interested to see the routing, wiring and shielding they've done. Probably ceramic pickups too.

On that note, I set up my cv strat bridge to float last night and took the opportunity to peak under the plate. Lovely clean routes and shielding paint. Very impressed.

It's great, isn't it? Even on Japanese Fenders you seldom get such good quality construction. Let's not forget the pickups are essentially Toneriders - the '60s has the "Classic Blues" set, I believe.

Careful though, the other Squier ranges are also leagues behind Classic Vibes. I especially see a lot of love for the Vintage Modified range, but they're really not on par.

EDIT: This is of course somewhat reflected in the price difference.

Think only the Classic Vibe is China though? I thought the VMs were Indonesia.

Oooh, right you are. I thought they were Made in China along with Standards (although they seem to be a bit of a mix too)

This guitar looks great and is worth its money. We just got used to cheap guitars. I believe that Classic Vibes at $300 was one of the ventures that led to the recent situation when Fender was in debts. Also all the jobs that buyers are not satisfied with like poorly cleaned, painted cavities, poorly done fretwork, bad action, intonation are tasks that has to be done by people, and those people are usually poorly paid to cut the final price of the product. You get what you pay for. If you get a great product for a ridiculuos price, it just means that on the other side of the planet people who took part at creating the product didn't get paid at all. I wonder what the prime cost of these Mex Fenders is and for what price Guitar Center and other shops get them

this is all true-- I understand that 2nd/3rd world foreign labor is slavery-- and all in all, this is definitely worth the $450 that I paid for it, since I can't get it elsewhere

The quality of all the parts is better than the CV duos that I've played, the matte finish maple neck is fantastic-- its just those little details that are missing.

That said, if one could easily source Duo-sonic parts, I would recommend that route instead, since its such a straightforward configuration

be careful -- if you play one through a good amp there is a good chance you will buy it-- and the H/S offers versatility that the CV Duo lacks

Got to say I bought a new Squier Jaguar VM a couple of months ago from Gamlins in Cardiff. Build quality is excellent.

Finish flawless
Decent Alpha pots
frets finished properly
Reasonably thick shielding paint in the cavities
Electrics neat (not so neat now I've done the series mod)
Neck nigh on perfect for me
Action low and buzz free (so spot on that I didn't even have to adjust the bridge - see below)
Sounds just like a jag should (bridge pickup is a bit shrill and needs some tone taming but I'm going to change that anyway)
machine heads solid and smooth

Some of the hardware is obviously cheaper than the hideously expensive (in the UK at least) Fender offerings but it does the job.

Only problem I had was an occasional crackling sound (see thread on the forum). Eventually easy to solve just screw the Bridge adjustment screws down until they touched the bottom of the mounting cups. Thanks to those on the forum who helped me.

Maybe I was lucky with my purchase

After this experience might be in the market for a Mustang VM

Everyone in Guitar Guitar Camden has a bit of an jobsworth vibe about them; helpful to a point but still obviously just wanting that sweet sweet commission so lean a bit too hard on "SO WHAT DO YOU THINK, WANNA BUY ITTTTT?"

The brand new Affinity Jazzmaster I took out of the box yesterday had zero problems. This is disconcerting.

I know right? Cheaper but nice.
