well, as some may recall I've wanted a V (flying or otherwise) forever, but have been unable to pull the trigger due to them all being terrible and/or overpriced
but I wandered into GC yesterday feeling depressed and was unable to resist the charm of this $149 bad boy (odd shaped gigbag included)
I only took one picture of it because ,as I was taking it apart to remove the horrible pickup covers I discovered that the pickup covers are not covers, the entire pup is in a horrible plastic housing that makes it look like a active pickup
so I just screwed it back together and cleaned the dead skin cells off it and replaced the strings
overall its a solid, rudimentary instrument-- its the precursor to the current range of entry level jacksons so these used ones are basically free
I've been playing it through a bitcrusher AND a fuzz factory so I don't have to think about the gross pickups

yeah I couldnt stand the idea of paying for a gibson and they havent made the epiphone V for YEARS now-- the color is suppose to be "GUNMETAL" like metallic greykingkiller wrote:I have one of the JS32 Rhoads Vs, the newer cheap ones. Bought it bc I wanted a V but hate the Gibson style and the other symmetrical designs. Gonna drop Invaders or some other stupid high output pickup in it bc METAL or whatever. I like the gray finish (it looks gray on my screen).
I will probably put some cheap dragonfire ceramics in but its gonna be annoying to rewire since its got that sassy rear-route panel

I had a black one like that. It's very light, but you can get it to balance better if you move the strap button to one of the neck screws, the one behind the treble strings is the best, but the one behind the bass strings also works better than the weird stock position. You can always put it back in the original position if you decide to sell it.
I love those pickups too.

yeah the strap button is already on a neck screw so it balances pretty well!Fakir Mustache wrote:I had a black one like that. I thought about maybe GFS Power Rails too, I'm not sure which yet. I want a set of Invaders in general so I might just try them in the Rhoads first.

I've got the black model as well, paid £75 for it and it's as new. I really like the feel of the neck and think it's a decent guitar, especially as a modding platform.
I got rid of the bridge pickup for an EMG 81 almost straight away. It sounded too lifeless and dull for me.
I had the RR5 years ago which I believe is the top model, that was a great guitar.
My only complaint is playing these sat down. It's doable with a right angle Jack lead then hold in like a classical position but other that basically impossible.
I've considered gluing a rubber strip on the bottom edge (like some flying Vees had) so it grips your trousers.
