Hey folks!
I've got TWO traditional SSS strats at the moment, and they both have like, CRAZY low output pickups. One is an 82, the other is a fairly recent Squier. the 82 is the worst, by far, like, no sustain even through a big amp, it goes attack-feedback. :(

Anyway, I'm hoping some of y'all have experience with and recommendations for replacement strat pups. I'm looking for a pretty traditional clean sound, and I will be piling on the fuzz, of course.

Def recommend the Bareknuckle Mother's Milk set.

You can choose things like no middle RWRP and no stagger. Bit pricey but I'm really really happy with them.

Can't say enough good things about the Lace Sensor Red Silver Blue set I have.

Not stratty, but still a strat. Great for fuzz and everything else.

My favourite ever strat pickups were grey-bobbin Tokai pickups. They're quite expensive (and most people are smart enough not to part out Tokais because they're brilliant). When I built my strat, I ordered some Rose Pickup Robustas as they were pretty much identical in spec and construction. And they're great.

I actually like late 1960s-spec low output strat pickups for the strat thing, nice funk toanz and sound great with heavy compression.

But for all-around chunk and at a good price, I'd highly recommend a GFS '64 Stagger set. Ol' Mages did a mini-review many moons ago: http://www.shortscale.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15795

At this stage, aren't GFS' offerings just as good as Angry Duncan et al's, just at half/third of the price?
