Guitar Abstraction from the Blues-Rock base

We, most guitarists, appreciate Jeff Beck's unique technique. We struggle for the right words...we might refer to his "Blues-Rock-Jazz technique".
Relistening to early Jeff Beck, his Blues-Rock not yet grown tangent to the jazz sphere, I realize now how hard it was to "hear" what he was doing...his .little surprises, abstractions from the best Blues-Rock technique, sounded like mistakes! A bit like when ya first listen to Thelonious Monk.
