my next question is why are they updating the player series guitars when the VANTARA line just replaced them all ?

I think the Vintera range replaced the "Classic Player"s rather than the "Player"s.

The Vintera range is replacing a couple of different lines, I think... at least certainly replacing the "Classic Series" a la Classic 50s/Classic 60s/Classic 70s Strats, the vintage reissues that had old-school neck specs (which in turn replaced the Japanese '57/'62 RI stuff in the late '90s when Fender stopped bringing those into the US).
