Is this a good deal? CV Tele, Lindy Fralins, $420
Been scouring the bay area for a good Telecaster to round out the squad - this fella has bid himself down to 420 off of 600 bucks. Seriously, did not pressure him to make that near 200 disappear...

So I'm kinda interested, I've heard good things about CV Tele's, it has the colour scheme I get down with, Lindy Fralins are a known amber switchtip brand and Blues Specials are $220 new.
Is this a good or a shit deal? I'm having trouble telling...

Probably. What do those usually go for over there? Maybe think what the guitar is worth, then say maybe $110 for the $220 pickups?
It's probably a great guitar with great pickups, though.

I'd fuck that off? Seems a lot for a Squier, mods like pickups never worth as much as they cost, and from the look of the pic below, it's going to need a new nut.

Seems pricey. For that money find a Baja or stick on 150 and get an old American special.
If you do go for it ask if he installed the Fralins himself. If not, who knows what’s actually in there.

Why is strung righty in one pic, and lefty in another?
It kinda looks like that nut has been unstuck and flipped, scope that weird little hangover on the headstock view. So at least that part might be an easy fix to revert? Defo enquire.

Where can you find a Baja for that kinda money?
I don't know if it's a great deal but I think that's one of the more desirable models, certainly the cheapest way into a bound body I'd think?

GFS sells both finished bound bodies and complete guitars

420? The sex number! Nice!

They still pop up on FB marketplace at a great price once in a while, same with the American Specials. When you can buy a secondhand US Standard for 700 you gotta price something that cost half the amount retail accordingly. When you’re in the market you just have to check regularly cos the dealers in there snap up most of the stuff. Having rebuilt my collection of gear over the last year and a bit and having bought?sold?traded 40-50 in that time, I can say there is still many a deal to be had.
Yes you do still see people asking silly prices (due to a combination of new guitar prices having shot up and especially cos while people had extra disposable income from being stuck in the house for a year, COVID prices for preowned gear became a thing) but only a doofus would pay those prices. Remember those amazing Gibson tribute series guitars that were all about 300-400 preowned? Some people were asking 7-800 for them. Sadly some folk were buying them. So prices are still all over the place but they’re coming back to reality.
