You just can't shoot poly over nitro.

Aug speaks the truth. Nitro on poly in a-okay. Kurdt on Polly could be disasterous though.

So I brushed on some nitro laquer over a test block I sprayed with the poly and it wrinkled and peeled. You guys totally steered me wrong and would have fucked my projeck.

dude...I spray nitro right on top of poly guitars all the time. Something is screwy here, and you aren't telling us everything.

Auto paint is generally acrylic, not poly, at least in the UKz.

However, that shouldn't matter, as half of Fender's custom colours were acrylic.

What was my point again.......................

would it matter that it has only been drying for a day? Other than that I cant think of anything I'm not telling you. I'm just glad I tested it out before I sprayed it on the guitar

but isnt acrylic laquer too. Car manufacturers in the US cant use laquer anymore. So I think it would have to be poly. but I'm definantly not an expert on paint types and all that. I just put paint in the gun and spray

As far as I understand it, some of the Fender guitars were entirely ntiro, others were poly with a nitro clear coat on top. It was all dependant on the colour that was sprayed on the guitar.

That paint on my bronco that I got from Autozone is acrylic lacquer.

it must have been an acrylic enamel...that would cause those problems. If your guitar was shot in AE, then you'll need to strip it first. If it was shot in poly, then everything will be fine.

Its single stage paint, so it polishes just as shiney as clear coated, some even say it polishes better, so I guess I'll just do it that way. I just wanted to try clear coating it.

That and you have to let everyhting dry fro 50000 hours before you can start any kind of clearcoating. I learned that shit the hard way! and it led to this:
