When I went to MusikMesse last year, I'd only slept a few hours in a few days, and had drank a stupid amount of Bacardi. The actual exhibition was quite cool, and then about half an hour before we were due to leave, I checked the listing one final time, and realised that I'd missed the main amp and effect section (I'd been through the electric guitar section first thing, and saw quite a few amps and effects, but not that many). Needless to say, I thought "Ah... fuck." and got very wasted that night.

Ah man, that would have sucked.
You did the right thing thought in getting battered, I would have been distraught.

Mind you, hungover is not the time for loud guitar stuff - when we went shopping for Gareth;s Tele it was the morning after my mates stag do. I had a real headache and was not at all up for it.

T.C. Electronics makes fine gear. All their stuff is pricey though.

I used some of their rack gear at uni, I didnt like it much. I think it was quite old though. The reverbs sounded very sterile. I've never used any of their guitar pedals though.

A lot of the stuff they releaseis rehashes of their old line of things, but these are new. Classically their Distortion + Boost was very big on the 80s metal/rock scene and their Chorus Flanger + Pitch Modulation pedal is ubiquitous.

Very expensive though, and their older pedals can be bought as TRex (e.g - Alberta = Overdrive) for cheaper.

I always thought the G Major system (i think it is called) was cool.... But it is like $1500...Basically unlimited amp selection, effects, patches, and can even control all of your stomp boxes which can then be rack mounted in a rack drawer....

That said, I don't think I would spend 1500 to make my rig MORE COMPLICATED.... unless I was doing huge shows and had at least one person doing each of the following

stringing my guitar
Tuning my guitars
bring beer
bring food
setting up my amps
setting up my effects
warming my fingers up for me
pre show blow job (girls only need apply)
re-tune guitars
bring beer
using telekenisis to make me play better
bring beer
mid show blow job under stage (girls only need apply)
retune guitars
mid show snack person
bring beer
Post show sponge bath (girls only need apply)
bring beer
bring beer
Twin female swedish massueses?
more beer
someone to buy me more gear as I am too lazy to make someone tear it all down.....
more beer

If all this was done.... Then the gmajor would be OK....

lol.. gotta get your priorities straight.

The G System and all that G Major/Minor stuff is very interesting, clever the added programmable loops and MIDI to switch amp channels/other effects stuff. I'll never be a rack guy though, I like everything there for me to tweak it, knobs and switches. I'm not a program kinda guy, even the stuff I have on my JVM footswitch can be switched on the amp with push button(s).

I personally find that alot of times you have to tweak you pedals just based upon room sound, crowd size, etc..... Particularly delays and such. Sometimes just a little reverb is good,. sometimes more.... You know the drill.... I always thouht those systems were interesting, and if you have 3 tech guys working for you they probably kick ass...But not really worth it for a normal gigging musicians.... Now, if they had a real wah effect and some good ovedrive/distortion patches that would be awesome and then maybe worth it...But as it is, you still have to use your dirt pedals and wah pedal.... So....I will pass onit...

Those pedals look great though...

I am thinking of getting one of the Behringer memory man pedals as I don;t have any delay pedasl at the moment... I loaned my dd6 to my old guitarist...and we know how that always turn out...

yyyyeaaah. Get that VTM - We're all curious about them. I definitely tweak to how things sound in a room, it's normall trebs and bass for me Dependent upon the Stage height and/or what it's made of. We've played on some reaaal springy temp stages that suck bass.

Personally I wouldn't use the overdrive on a bit of kit like that, digital approximations to overdrive sounds always sit a little uneasy to me. I'm not a total snob though, I won't claim I don't like a transistor based clipping (OD pedal) over a tube preamp stage overdriven, both can sound wonderful into the right amp.

Personally I am an overdive whore. I use:
SIB Varidrive (heavy tube driven)
Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive (clean Boost)
Modded Blues Drive (slight dirt on clean)
and either a mxr Wylde overdrive or an older Tubescreamer for somewhere in between the SIB and Bl Dr.

I don't get into distortion because the I don't play lead and don't need the overly saturated or fuzzy tone. That said, I've been thinking about trying one again as it has been probably 2 years since I stopped messing around with them...

Also, as I get more and more into bi-amping an using the Tiny Terror as my main heavier tone, my pedal board will evolve more..... I do have to say that having that orange overdrive and the super reverbs clean tone at the same time is awesome....

I used to have a G-major with a CAE midi foot controller. It was pretty cool but very complicated to use. I wound up selling it. I like individual pedals much better. Knobs ftw.

I still own a T.C. Chorus/Pitch modulator/Flanger pedal and like it a lot.

I absolutely loved playing through that Tiny Terror at the last ALBQ.

It's a lot like my mid 80's Marshall Studio 15.

If you are ever bored on Thursday nights, I just started a jam night/open mic at Kaito Sushi (ex Fat Katz...) It will be on prominent display to fuck around on....Just grab whoever and stop by for some music/food.... I know you are into the sushi....

I was going to ask you...WHat is a good, reasonable bass combo/rig. I don't play bass at all but want something for the open jam. Right now I have a swr 12 but it is kind of beat up and I would rather just get something a little better...

Money isn't exactly an issue, just keep in mind that I am not going to be using it... I want something that will sound solid, and be reliable.

That little combo unit made by MarkBass is awesome. Ampeg makes a small combo amp as well. Most of the manufacturers out there are making pretty decent sounding amps these days. I would just go to one of the larger music stores and try some out. If you want to cruise over to my shop next week in Esco, I'll go over to G.C. with you.
