I remember someone looking into this recently (small head and cab etc). And since we get stiffed on Avatar cabs this may be useful info:

4 ohms mono, 8 ohms a side stereo. It's their entry level cab and shorter than a 1936 which is good if you have storage/car space issues. Also you can upgrade the speakers later too.

A steal at £149, £50 less than a 1936.

I forgot to mention it's wide enough to hold a standard Marshall valve head and that Marshall have just released angled and straight 4x12" cabs to complete the series.

That seems like a bargain, and it mentions "Celestion" speakers which I hear a lot about. No idea if that's a brand name or what (like Alnico, what the hell are Alnico magnets?) but all the good (read: expensive) cabinets seem to mention them. Feel free to enlighten me.

Depends how fast I save whether I'll get me one of those or not. The £88 Harley Benton thing is clearly still the best deal, but if I'm getting a Tiny Terror I want to put it through some half decent speakers!

Some guy here in San Diego is selling a avatar 2x12 with v30s for 175. I am thinking of buying it and selling my one with eminences...

That's a good deal. The Avatars are great sounding and reasonably priced.

I'm thinking this is on a par with that Harley Benton - probably only size and construction/appearance are different.

Celestion and Eminence are the two main speaker companies, Celestion make Greenbacks (classic rock), G12T-75s (allrounder), G12H, G12M etc speakers for all styles. G12T-75s are teh stock speaker in the standard Marshall cabs. These MC cabs will probably have cheaper GoldBack speakers or similar in them but I reckon they'll still sound fine, a closed back 2x12" projects a nice amount of umpf.

Mike got there before I could. Celestion are one of the back bones of music in the last 40 years. Hifi too, or at least they were till about the mid nineties when it seemed like they pulled out of the market. I have some nice bookshelfs I got off eBay for £5.

Alnico is a type of alloy that can be easily magnetised and used in things like pickups and speakers

I forgot Vintage30s, they make those too - lots of metallers and all sorts of other folk are really into these at the moment - the de rigeur speaker (good bass and mid response unsuprisingly). I like G12T-75s personally.

Alnico Blues as well for the Vox heads.

I love the Celestion Blue bulldog speaker in my Vox cambridge. Though when it comes time to put speakers in that fake Fender cab I got I'm going to go with Eminence. Celestions just sound awesome, though. Speakers make a HUGE difference.

If you're in the states Eminence makes more sense. Celestions are pretty cheap in the UK, not so in the US.
