Basically they are putting the switching of a Baja Tele into a Jaguar.

Four way switches for a tele predate the Baja by at least ten years; other than that, your logic is flawless.

I didn't read the last six pages because there was a lot of hating going on in the first page, but I fucking love this idea. I love the color scheme, I love the idea, I don't even like The Smiths that much, but I love Johnny's guitar playing and I love that guitar. Matching headstock would be nice, though. Doubt they'd do that.

Is that really it ?
The pickguard is too stark... I should probably tell Johnny though.

I would'nt say no.
But yeah, i'd probably change that pick guard.

i really like it but if the pickguard wasn't so white, maybe aged a little I would be thinking how I could sell a kidney to get the money for one

Aye, pour stout on it.

That is a guitar that looks like it was designed to improve with age.

Very weird thread -
that said,
Marr for all his talents or lack thereof -
I take no position either way -
or whether Fender deems him sig worthy - (why would that matter to me or anyone?)
was never in or a member of the Talking Heads which was alleged early on in this mess,
although he did play on one or more album cuts along the way FWIW.

Didn’t he tour with talking heads after their studio collaboration...?

Yep - must admit, I thought you'd made a typo and meant Talk Talk too.

Again, not bashing the guy - or praising him - but while he may have played with Talking Heads I think it's incorrect to say that he was in the band or a member of the band.
By way of contrast, I think he was/is a part of the Cribs from what I understand.

*shrug*
If you're playing with the band, you're in the band. You may not be a permanent member, but you are part of the team. Guest appearances are a little different, I suppose, but that's not really what was goin on here.
Similarly, it could be said that Robert Smith was in Siouxsie & the Banshees.

He's moonlighted with a lot of bands these past few years; Broken Social Scene as well. He's a great guitarist and in every band I've heard he's had something good to offer, or at the very worst just not made an impact. I don't think Johnny Marr could actually ruin a band. Sadly his solo stuff has always been crap though; the fact is he's better utilised as an honourary member. I'm glad he's still gigging solidly and trying new things.

He was in S&TB, twice.

I'm betting when they finally release this thing, it'll have a mint guard. If I make any spare cash sometime soon I want a Marr-esque Jazzmaster. Mint on olympic white just looks so clean!
ps. how could you not like the smiths? seriously??

I saw him live with Broken Social Scene, it was pretty special and a total surprise.

keep in mind, next year is the jag's 50th birthday = can be exploited by fender.
they need(ed) a signature jag. there ya go.
i kinda like it, but i'd slap some vintage tort on it, no doubt.
it'd be cool if they did another teh kurdtz jag, but now for all of us to have.
or the verlaine jag with lipsticks... or so.
we'll see.
but business is business. fender knows.
Pat.
