i dont know if i got lucky or what, but my jagstang actually sounds good and isnt muddy(no muddier than my MIM HSS Strat) Mines stock minus TOM and JB.

I just find it strange that the Kurdtz had no guitar playing talent but manages to get his own signature model. Lets all play power chords and design shitty-looking guitars and Fender will make them!

It wasn't like that. Kurt was like "Hey Fender, I came up with this idea, can you make it?" and they were like "He's ridiculously popular, this will sell" and so did it.

Bassintom and DDDave can GTFO, this thread is for the real things specifically. I'm interested to see how many are in circulation specifically on this board. I've still only seen one irl, and that's the one in my local guitar shop that I bought.

I bought the blue one about 12 years ago, and the red one was a bargain, so i bought it to modify, but never did.

I really can't stress how much I love my Jag-stang. It's completely stock, but I don't think i would change anything (maybe the bridge pickup, but I'm not that fussed on humbuckers, so it does me).

It pplays so nice, and sounds fantastic.

Come on, they are gorgeous and a quirky chunk of rock history. Of course I still like them--both colors. But they were prototypes. Who knows what Kurt might have thought up later for them? It was a cool idea on paper, but he didn't have enough time and maturity to work out the bugs. I wanted something else is all.

I really like the look and shape of them too. I think I'd prefer them the way they are, rather than contoured. I think they look really feline or something, the waist is so narrow for souch a long guitar.

I still don't get how people can say the Jag-Stang is "incomplete", or even "buggy". Fact is, it's a Mustang with a different shaped body and a bridge humbucker. If anything it's a Mustang+, but of course that's subjective as some people might see the changes as negatives. I personally love my Jag-Stang, and I don't see what's wrong with it. It's still a guitar in its own rights, and one I really love to play and wouldn't really want to change.

basically its beat to shit, peices of wood are missing, i made a cream guard for it, glued the trem arm in, put jazz 13s on it.
put a black pup cover in the neck, and a seymour duncan jb in the bridge.
a different string tree, and the entire thing has been re-wired, in fact.
the only original parts are the tuners, neck, body, bridge, and trem,
everything else(besides the neck pup) is different/ newer.
i also owned an 04 re-issue.

I love my Fiesta Red 2002ish JS. I got the switches changed so they run Neck-Both-Bridge on the left and Series-Parallel-Split on the right. I prefer it that way, a lot easier to switch positions and shit. Would still prefer toggles though.

What string gauge does everyone use with theirs? I used to have .12s but they made my nails come away from the beds, ouch. I 've used .11s for ages though, for a shortscale theres loads of string tension, I don't get it, my strat set up with .11s feels looser somehow.

do youhave the bridge locked or anything?
perhaps there is too much tension on the neck and the bridge could use some tweaks.

I have a 2002 (i think) Sonic Blue model with a Seymour Duncan 'Custom' bucker. I sold a Fiesta Red 2003 model last year and i also had a Fiesta Red 1997 model when they came out around the same time that i soon sold.

I've said this a thousand times but it seems worthwhile saying it for the 1001 time... the models are inconsistent.
The first issue model i had was garbage, no matter what i did it did not play nice or sound good. The second model was gorgeous, the neck played effortlessly and the stock pups were excellent. I was an idiot for selling it.
The model i have now (rob og's old JS) is good but not the same as the last one. I had to get rid of the stock bucker and Mike has a point about the wooliness with some models, so i swapped the .043 cap on the tone for a .022 orange drop with great results. It now has clarity.

If you find a good model i think its a great guitar, especially if you prefer a H/S pup configuration like myself and i dont think they get a fair review from a lot of players. Its creator is also its downfall, now they are overpriced because of nostalgic kids and serious players dismiss them because "kurdt could'nt play properly". Its a shame.

True dat Fran! I had a Jagstang and got rid of it within a week. It just didn't do it for me. I did like the neck tho' but overall I wasn't satisfied with it. Maybe the color choices, maybe the weak pickups don't know. I straight traded it for a 1978 Musicmaster.

Now that I think about it my Jagstang felt closer to my long gone 69 Mustang RI, than to my amazing 65' reissue. Even the finish was kinda shitty looking.

I've got one of the original ones. I love it and play it every day. I could see how some may not like the sound it produces but I donno, that neck is ridiculously awesome. I've never played a more comfortable neck. I don't think I could see myself ever getting rid of this guitar, even if I got something nicer.

On the whole I'd rather just have a Mustang.

Owned one from like '96 or something- once past the honeymoon period, I was never really that happy with it, tonewise. But this is a well travelled road, I sold that mother to a Kurt Cobain impersonator 3 or 4 years ago. Turned out he wasn't too happy with my "drill + chisel" routing job for the straightened humbucker

I still can't believe the wood could make an otherwise fairly balanced sounding pickup sound so wooly. SO LONG, PIECE OF SHIT.

That cap change sorted mine out along with a different pup. That sounds bad in itself but saying that; name me one person on here that uses a stock Jag or Jazzy without any alterations.

Fran, we both tried cap changes. We straightened the bucker routes.

I bypassed the controls completely.
I installed brighter pickups.

It was still nothing like what I wanted. Just face that you have really poor taste in guitars. You wouldn't know a quality instrument if it slapped you in the face.

Fuck knows.. i still believe i am right and you are wrong. Its inconsistency in models/parts imo, and judging by the mixed opinion on the JS it appears that i am completely right.
