Crap... Now you've got me looking at this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Gibson-2002-Black-L ... dZViewItem

So I get a project out of it too (a plus for me)...

Here's what I'm thinking, gimme some advice:
A. Buy the above body hopefully in the 2-300 range. (USA made gibson body dood!) I like this because I get a fun build project out of it, I like the used and road worn look of the finish... but after my GFS order the whole thing will probably cost me in the range of 400 dollars built. Plus I'm a guitar noob still so no fret markers could be problematic slightly...
B. Look for an epiphone goth... probably find one in the 2-250 dollar range. I'm not a fan of the all blacked out hardware but I do like the flat finish. I've heard the pickups are decent so it's probably a player as is.
C. Go for the sexy red sparkle xaviere thinline LP700 from GFS. I love sparkle, these things have phenominal build quality, very unique (which is a big plus for me), fret markers for my newbness. It's definitely a looker (keep my particular tastes in mind). Negatives... it's not a gibson(I guess thats a problem, maybe) and no project fun...

Sloan, anybody? I'm starting to GAS pretty hard for LP, and this Gibson body on the bay needs immediate attention if I wanna go for it. I just don't know what the best money/guitar ratio is in this situation.

A or B. If I'm going to buy a copy it's has to be a proper copy. The GFS/Agile/SX/etc. look horrible to me. the little inaccuracies would always be nagging me.

Goth LPs are very cool. and are definitely an amazing deal for a LP.

personally I think that epiphone custom is cool too. I think $300 is a fair price. if you want it I think it's well worth it.

knowing how well this epi paul plays, and my love for the neck with ebony frets, i'd pay $400 for just the bones.

Yeah I'm going to go for it, I just don't know what limit I should put on it. Seems like they can be bought for about 700 or so complete, and needs about 100-150 worth of parts. I think maybe... $350?

Roman 12 seems more gothy to me, I guess.

Star and crescent moon is more... Islamic. Cool looking none the less.

lol @ Islamic 'hesitance...'

i almost put "muslim," but seeing as i have no idea what the differences are, i figured i'd leave out the possible 'cism. glad someone had the balls knowledge to throw it out there.

Islamic describes the Religion, Muslim describes the practitioner.

i like black les pauls with gold hardware and white binding, pretty much the only way i think a les paul can look hot and not all... midlife crisis classic rock player guitar.

as for epiphone guitars, i started out on one, it was heavy as fuck (not the sound, the weight haha), it was one of those that still came with gibson pickups back then. i don't know about these newer epiphone customs though... price seems a bit high for it too... but you won't find another les paul custom copy for that money (tokai etc) because they've gone up in price so much by now.
