Of those colors, I would go Fiesta (or the faded Fiesta called Coral) and add strings. Otherwise, it is perfect as is. I like the sticker/stamp on the neck and the etched plate. Those little extras give it bonus stars for me. Otherwise, Sonic blue, Daphne, or even LPB. But the red was popular at that time (even if not avail on Duos).

Oh yeah, the music store stamp & SS# on the neck plate = MAJOR win for me.

there were dakota red and olympic white models available shortly before they changed to the duo II, i think.

seafoam green would look awesome. would fall in line with the 'girl color' series rumored to have been made in that era.

That is cool man,nice score.If you refinish it,how about Mahogany Red? It would be period correct but still unusual.

as much as i love shell pink (i refinned my '64 jazzmaster in SP) i think this would look über-geil n' hot in fiesta red. it would give it SO much life!

Duo showed up this AM, my 2yr old & I met the FedEx driver @ the end of the driveway to snag the box. Ran inside & tore that sucker open like Christmas. Bobby did a kick-@$$ job packing the neck & body separately (Bobby - Charlie LOVED the shredded paper - covered half our living room floor!). Put the pieces out in my office & sat down for breakfast w/ the family, went for a nice AM walk, drank some coffee & finally it was time for Little Man to go down for his nap & for Mr. Man to DIG IN!!!

Took some detailed photos. Popped off the pick guard to see what I'd find (already knew the knobs, output jack & switch weren't original) and thankfully the pickups, tone pot, cap & some of the wiring are intact. Mediocre repair work on the volume pot (cheap Japan part) + switch. Functional at least, which is fine for now. Original brown p'up covers are BEAUTIFUL and the replacement tone & vol. knobs are dead sexy. Would've been cool to score the originals, but they'll be fun to hunt down someday along w/ the bridge cover, etc. Anyhow, more pictures then screwed on the neck, strung her up w/ some fresh DR Pure Blue 11s. ZERO adjustments needed. Tuned up and was playing right away - son is still sleeping, so I have only heard it acoustic + through a little practice amp w/ headphones. Can't wait to CRANK it!!!

Anyhow, I'm totally clueless re: vintage Fenders or vintage guitars in general. Just nothing I've ever been exposed to. LOVE how 'broken in' it feels. Actually similar to my CIJ Jaguar, one of my favorite guitars I've ever played, but totally different. The action is SO low - might even raise it just a hair as I tend to prefer action that requires a bit of work on my part. Feels like a Miata - a VERY good thing in my book. Little, sporty, comfortable, L I G H T - as in, featherweight! Frets aren't original, which is a bit of a bummer, but they've got a ton of life in them & it isn't a bad job at all. I'm pretty sensitive to the fret dress b/c I cheat with my thumb almost constantly & slide around a lot - if there is any roughness at all to the fret edges, my thumb knows by the end of an evening. These aren't perfect, but they're darned good & I plan to play the living crap out of this little guy, so. . .

Initial impression is that this is a guitar I'll own for the rest of my life. Really needs NOTHING - just pick it up and play, play, play. It will get a refin, as soon as I have a plan. I'd like to figure out a way to remove the current nightmare Easter Egg paint & see if there is anything underneath I can save. If that doesn't work out, it'll probably be ReRanch Shell Pink or Inca Silver.

I think I'd be tempted to just take the guard off and leave it as is, providing that pattern continues under the guard.

I don't know why I like this finish. I know it's awful, and I know that I don't like it, but I kind of do, gah.

At least these knobs are unique, Bakelite & VERY old - wouldn't be surprised if they were older than the guitar. Anyone seen them before?

I think they are probably radio knobs.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I've got a thing for old '30s-'50s table top radios & these have a similar vibe. . .
