There's a guy selling a Sunn bass cab in craigslist near me. It's an 18" and two 15". The thing is fucking immense.

I find 15" have a looser rumbly bass/mid note while 10"s are punchier and more like a slap in the face. Both good, But I favor the sound of 15"s. for guitar too actually.

I'm definitely in the "too much, is just enough" camp.

I'd buy that if was that cheap over here. I missed a chance to buy one on clearance for £225. I have the chops to do the mods.

I wouldn't bother, I think it's a really dumb amp. 120W and no cleans.

Idiots.

Clean channels are for ninnies.

No.

And by the way, if you can't get cleans using the low gain input of your Sovtek, there's something wrong with it.

JCM800s are clean on the low gain input.

The Mig isn't exactly a JCM clone, close but it's alot gainier. Read online reviews, it's the common complaint for the Mig 60. It's why the 50 and teh 100 are much more sought after. The Mig 60 was very much a one trick pony.

They definitely went overboard with it. Mind you, it's not like it's pure filth on the low... it's just no matter how low you have everything setup, it'll still breakup about the edges. Which suits me just fine. I get sparkling cleans from my Sunn and I never fucking use them. :D I'm also the worst guitarist ever, so take that with a grain of... salt?

I've thought about trying different tubes in it to see if I could not necessarily mellow it out... but get a more even range from it. Something between growl and killing your family in the middle of the night.

Fair enough. I thought it was a direct clone.

Either way it's not pussy to have cleans, life is about contrast. Plus I can tear off faces with a clean guitar sound anyway. Take the Clash for example, you don't need gobs of dirt to rock.

You realize of course I was just being snotty? There's plenty of rocking cleans out there, I just don't use them because they don't mask my ineptness at guitar as well. :P

There's mods you can do to clean it up:
>>Good thread<<
One guy reports that simply changing to low-gain (12AT7) valves helps a whole lot. However, mods to make it more like a JCM800 are feasible. I could do a lot of work for the difference in price.

I know, I've looked at the schematics and there are similarities, so it can be fixed, but there is an extra gain stage that needs to be removed before you get anywhere near a marshall, plus PCB amp ain't my idea of fun to work on, but I know you have skills in that area.

That guys kinda doing what I was working on, but i said 'fuck it' because i think if you crank the master and turn the pre down a bit it gets clean enough.
