The main point we're making is that they've taken the innards of the cruddy Bassman SS cheapo amps, thrown it into a Tweed combo to fool people like Rob and upped the price.
It's cynical in the extreme.

i definitely thought they were tube-amps when i first looked at them, given their price-tag. so i'll grant you that a grand (their current pre-order price on MF.com) for a solid state combo is definitely not appropriate. however, are we really sure that the guts in the low-end bassmen are also in these new amps? or is that just a general assumption?

It's an assumption based on specs and the fact that It's Fender.

hmmm. i guess. like i said, i've heard amazing tone squeezed out of shit that doesn't make sense that it'd be awesome...so whatever.

There's samples up on the Fender site, nothing overly impressive or tasty:

Aboot half way down.

see, this must be personal taste, but some of those sample sounds i heard were actually pretty cool and motown-y.

Fair enough, can't argue with taste.
Well, not as easily.

ha ha ha. for me, what i'm interested in is great hi and low mid prescence. low-end is important of course, but to me for your bass to really cut through you NEED low and hi mids...and those samples seemed to have a pretty good amount of hi and low mid.

When low end is present in those, it seems to fart nastily.

i'll have to check that out again...but definte "Farty" low-end for me...to me that means a sound almost like a less-than-powerful enough speaker is "flapping" around a bit?

Sounds more like it's just some crap sounding preamp clipping than a speaker.

It could be from the amp, it could be from the recording device, but it doesn't sound good to me.
I would reject that as a tracked bass recording, my Behringer DI box sounds much better than that and it cost £30.
