I think you're thinking of EMG's, not Lace Sensors. The Lace Sensor's are passive single coils, they just have some fancy build that eliminates noise. And they're quite good for a wide variety of styles, though I don't often see metal players use them.

@ Weeping_Moon
Welcome to the board!
The Lace Sensor Red is good for a thick humbucker type sound. I have one in my mustang but I needed to put 1 meg potentiometers in the volume/tone circuit in order to get the high frequencies to open up. The Lace Sensor Blue is also in my Mustang, it's my favourite. Sounds like a cross between a PAFand a P-90. I'm quite happy with these pickups, I think they cost about $60 American dollars new, but they're pretty easy to find used for about $25 if you look around on the internet.

Here's my Japanese Mustang with white pickups. I also changed the tuners to white button types from the original chrome ones.

The brown mustang is an American made one, it now belongs to Reece.

What value of pots did you use?

Not my 'stang, bro. I assume he's using 500k pots in there though, but 1meg would probably sound lush!

I have a red lace sensor dually (essentially 2 single coils on a humbucker-sized plate) in my Univox Hi-Flyer. It sounds alright, but it's a little midrangey. I'm going to try running it straight to the output and see how it sounds. Currently, the stock 500k pots are in here. Not an especially trebley guitar.

i also changed the pots from 250 k to a 500 k. now it sounds much louder. when youre changing to pots from 250 to 500 k do you have to change both the volume and tone? or is it okay to change only the volume?

You dont have to change both, but if you dont (and the Capacitor) it messes the values up. If it sounds okay though... leave it.

i've rocked mini-humbuckers in a mustang before, and i thought it sounded great. the models i've had experience with are the jb jr, lil 59, and the lil screamin' demon. the demon is my favorite for rock tones and if i'm going to put in a push/pull pot to split the coils, but the jb jr has the most versatile sound.

but you should definitely check out gfs pickups. they're not everybody's cup of tea, but at the price vs. quality ratio they have, you'll be impressed.

It could be a shielding issue, the Jap Mustang i had was a pain for it, some guitars are where as others are completely silent.
