Comparing a Jaguar HH to a Toronado GT revealed the Jag was no match in terms of tone or sustain. The Duncan pups may play a big part in this and the GT has a slab mahogany body as well.
The Deluxe MIM Toronado was also better to my ears albeit somewhat closer to the HH. My friend has a Super Sonic and i thought it was similar to the MIM Toronado.

Hmm, I got a set of duncans in my Super Sonic, and I find them really thick and orgasmic sounding, and they ring out like a mofo. I was just curious to see if similar Fender HH guitars had that same quality, Cheers Fran :)

The GT has Duncans, it sounds more like a SG than a Fender, great Rock guitar. The HH Jag pickups are a bit lame tbh, it may be a different story with some Angry Duncans installed.

Yeah, the duncans in my SS make it sound in respect more like a Les Paul, but it still has some of that bright chimey Fender clarity when cleaned up. Beautiful sounding instrument. I always wondered about Jag HH pups, and what the guitar would sound like if someone put some, say, PAF pups in their. It probably would skew the sound more towards Gibson than Fender, but with a bit of that Fender chime to it.

Dots put P90s in his HH i believe. A few over at JS.com put humbuckers in but i dont recal the verdict tbh.

yeah, i've got humbucker spaced p90's in my hh which came with dragsters. it wasn't the medium output that put me off of the stock pickups, but the tone just wasn't my thing. not enough mids. . . didn't really cut the way i like.

RobOG made the body for that, Mike?
Yup. I think it was actually a Bronco body originally that he traced. He did a great job and selected a fantastic slab of wood for me. Much love for Robert.
I wonder if he'd be able and willing to do a lefty Bronco body for me later this year then...

Give him a yell, it's worth asking even though I think he's with Aen now, not at his workshop?

I want to hear your thoughts mate, you've probably played more vintage Fenders than anyone else here.

Funny you mention a stang being brighter than a jag. The rhythm player in my band has a stang and my ears are constantly assaulted by the icepick sound, though much of this is due to a completely terrible frontman amp. The jaguar just sounds more balanced and though very cutting, less plink-plunky.

1964 Fender Jaguar into 1976 Fender Bassman 50

the bridge pickup is set quite low so the neck and rhythm is noticeably louder

Bassman settings,

Bright Switch: off
Vol: 8
Treble: 5
Bass: 3.5
Master: 3

i probably dont have the the linking done right, feel free to edit
