CIJ. If you can stretch to it, change the pickups -- from personal experience, I'd recommend either
Seymour Duncan or
Curtis Novak replacements.
(If you exhaust your budget on the guitar, PM me and I'll send you some used AVRI pickups for free.)

That'd be awesome, but it'll be a couple of months before I have enough money, I only just started saving. I sold a nylon strung to start my Jaguar fund
Aha I get ahead of myself when I decide I'm deffinately going to get something, hopefully it'll be like my amp and I'll stumble upon a cheap second hand one.

Good Luck! I have a CIJ '66 Reissue, and I think it's great, with the only weak link possibly being the bridge pickup. It's a little weak, and thin sounding for my taste (although some players may find it to be fine). I'm considering putting in a Seymour Duncan SJAG-2 Hot Jaguar (I considered doing like I did on my first Jag 20 years ago, and putting in a Quarter Pounder, but they're kind of midrangey soundwise).

never too much midrange
i considered bareknuckle for a while but it's an investment that i never felt i should do because it's not need 'that much' so i always say 'i'll do it later when i'm less broke' but that never happens

Haha, you say that now, I almost got kicked out of one of my previous bands because the other guitarist/vocalist said I had too much mid range. I'm sorry that I couldn't keep up with his sophisticated setup of: a children's guitar (Ibanez Mikro) into a Digitech RP50, directly into the PA system (no amp, he owned no amp).

it's typical for midrange haters to be retarded
too harsh..actually maybe that's why our drummer left, or i got kicked out of another band, but making music with people who are already half deaf or just simply borderline insane seems to last

I know dude, if the guy didn't live on the same street as me (making practice really easy) I never would have joined the band. Glad that's over with though.

the image is so large that my co-worker didn't even realize what it was depicting until he made it his wallpaper and looked at it from several feet back.

IMO too much midrange sounds honky. And I don't like honky sounding guitar tones.

Well I recently got an MIJ Jag for three main reasons.
- It was cheaper than the CP Jaguar by about £100
- I preferred the neck radius on the Jag (and the matching headstock)
- I figured it would keep its value better than the CP (MIM).
I preferred the pickups on the CP but figured that with the money I would save I could change these out to AVRI ones. Also the bridge hasn't caused me many problems since I applied threadlock to all the screws; and that's in spite of the fact that I'm pretty heavy handed with my picking hand.
What I would say though is the neck makes them feel like totally different guitars. That's the major difference between them.
IF you are going to get the MIJ then be prepared to make some changes. The guitar is high maintenance as it is but those pickups are definitely going to be swapped out soon, especially the bridge.
EDIT: also for some reason I just can't see that facepalm image. My gf saw it straight away. Is there something wrong with me?!

I can't see it either! I've been staring at it for 10 minutes! I think it all comes down to the neck radius, everything else can changed with mods.
