i disagree. if i ever ended up playing bass in a band i'd be looking out for one. they lend themselves to aggressive playing, you just have to show it who's boss.

+1
Personally, out of the Grabber/Ripper family, I'd go for the Ripper. I like to beat the crap out of my instruments.

I find that there is a lot of gear that I dismissed utterly as a teenager because I hadn't the smarts or experience to work out how to use it, or the people I with hadn't (through no fault of our own).

This thing would be my ideal bass for that reason. The neck isn't any more baseball batty that a p-bass either; in fact the scale at the nut looks about the same. Plus they sound brilliant when you kick the shit out of them.
Simmons may just have put me off it though...

My two cents. Gibson basses play the best but sound pretty crap. Way too muddy. The exception being the Thunderbird.
I have an EB3 and acoustically it sounds great, and plays like a dream but as soon as I put it into an amp I'm let down... and that's been my experience with most Gibson basses.
I am thinking of sending my EB3's pick ups off to Novak to see if he brighten them up and take the woof out of them.
