I like the JS shape, but the wood on mine seemed a bit soft. I love that color. I was thinking about painting a CAR with tinted clear to look vintage.

It is the basswood. That is my only gripe with it really. I can deal with the switches, but the wood is really soft. This body is alder so it should be a bit tougher.

Body arrived. Looks nice. It has a US neck pocket vs Japanese one.

Jag-Stang pickguard won't work. The point on the lower horn sticks off the body.

Mustang one fits better, but needs a deeper curve.

It has contours, but not Fender ones. Much higher on the back and the front contour is way more subtile.

Got the front and back sanded. Just have to do the sides now.

Wow, they did go a bit far on that one. I just finished doing my first attempt at contours on my Jazzmaster body I made and its a test of patience. Of course, I had my AVRI Jaguar to use as a guide.

That sort of thing makes me wonder if he really DOES use a cnc for this stuff. There are also a couple indents I need to smooth out. One on the side in the lower curve and the other on the bottom.

I am anxious to see your finished project. The closest I have ever been to a Jag-stang was the time I bought a left handed Fiesta Red Jag-stang on CL for another Forum member. I made detailed drawings and measurements to make my own templates.
I will either build a Jag-stang or Jag-stang 2.0 at some point in the future. Maybe I can trade my Venus for one.

Nice! I think they are fun. I will probably deviate from my initial plan and stain this with walnut. Might try a sort of Costello look.

That would be a cool color scheme on a Jag-stang.

Good call. The grain on that body is gorgeous. Show it off.

Applied stain. It is looking good. Tonight I will lightly sand it and see if I want to do a second coat or if this is enough. I like it.

That looks GOOD!
A black pickguard would suit the stained body too.
I would be pissed off at the pickguard situation though, maybe trim a Mustang guard to suit?
And the contour of the body looks funny to me...
Should be good, I have faith.

Yeah the contours are not even close to Fender, but I wasn't expecting anything super great of the body as far as that goes.

If it was a Warmoth, I would send it back. (If I hadn't got it used, I would have sent it back asking wtf is up with the contours) but it should work perfectly fine. I am getting a custom guard for it anyways because I want a mini humbucker in the neck and single in the bridge. I will trace out a Jagstang gutars and adjust the point to get it to work better. (Or I will do the same with a Mustang one.

) It will be fine I am sure.

It is minwax dark walnut. I wanted normal, but they didn't have it in stock. It will be darker than the Costello, but that is ok with me.
I sanded the top lightly to take off some of the stain and show the wood and then did another coat to brown it back up.
Sanded.

Love natural finished guitars. I've always wanted a Costello style JM.

I decided to do Z Poxy and Poly as a clear coat. I wanted the gold aspect that Z Poxy adds to the body color. Before I did it though, I checked parts and it all looks good. (Aside from the pickguard issue I mentioned.) Bridge holes line up fine.

if you had told me this is what you had in mind, i'd have laughed you off stage. and i have been dead wrong.
this thing looks fucking sweet. great work. i'd probably do a wood pickguard, and mammoth dung knobs, though.
