What the hell is the matter with you? How many fucking windings did you put into that thing?! "Springing out while winding"?! Use your damn fingers to hold them down and keep the string taut. You only need 1-2 windings per post ever. If you do drop D, then get thicker strings. I keep my Jag tuned to Eflat and I drop that to Dflat all the damn time without problems, just use the right gauge.

THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT - I don't even play drums and I carry a drum key in my case. You never know.

My old guitar teacher does those, I always bungle them when I try :(

Calm down! I went for 3 windings because that's what Fender put on the damn guitar at the factory! If Fender had used 1.5 windings, then I would have used that as a starting point. As it was, my Jaguar had 3 windings for the low strings, and a *minimum* of 4 or more windings for the high B and E strings. I had no other frame of reference, so don't crap in your pants.

And don't get all bent out of shape if I decide to use a coin as a wedge, either! Honestly, there are bigger fish to fry: like worrying about the fact that Russia is busy trying to reconstitute its empire under the criminally agressive leadership of Putin...and largely succeeding!

- guitar tool with carbide snips, allen wrenches, bridge pin remover, phillips, flathead
- picks
- earplugs
- polish & cloth
- planet waves pick tuner
- string winder


this thing has gone with me to every gig since i was 19. if you play out regularly without these things, you've paid for it at least once. not i.

I used to get mad at vintage-style fender hardware being different and disorienting when I first got into shortscale re-issues and stuff but I used to just tell myself "If Kurt Cobain could do it, 15 year old pothead me can do it."

Not sure if that helps or not.

Oh, I'm completely calm. I'm just a huge dickface. It even says so under my username.

Fender did a lot of stupid shit with the Jag, so don't go by what they put on at the factory. That shit needs 11s at minimum, the bridge locked down, and 1-2 turns per tuner.

And the Russia topic is under discussion in the Pub. That's where we keep that shit.

Serious, my road bag had snips, drivers, allen keys, tuning fork, butane soldering iron & solder, wire, tape, drum key, cymbal stand nuts, extra cable ends and some incidental parts. I know by the number of other guys guitars I fixed on the road, that I'd be screwed without it.
