christ, dec 2011, that was when I last looked at this thread?

well looks like i'm digging it back up from the grave.

Posted a complete shot in the ss.o FB group the other day.

anyways here is the run down..

shit just wasn't working out how I had planned it..
Robert(Original) sent me a cyclone pickguard (probably the OG one from this body I suspect)
and I had decisions to make..
so I made them..

opted for standard S/HB/3way setup.. as fuck it it works..

Neck pickup is from a CV Duosonic IIRC (I know the cover is at the very least..) that it appears I had DIY wax potted at some point (still sounds good, so whatever.) Bridge pickup is the GFS Zebra that I was going to put into the thing anyways..
aftermarket strat hardtail bridge (looking for a different one though, as I bought an ashtray cover and it just won't fit.. gonna check my old strat trems and see if I have one that it will, then see if it'll work as a hardtail.. but anyways)

neck had gotten a bit of a bow after not having had strings on it for the past 3 years (at least)
still the jagmaster 21 fret neck (i've thinned it down a little bit, and filed the fret edges some, but could use a proper fret setup)
used a small shim (aka the cardboard from the package of strings)
still need to give it the `ol intonation adjustment & such, but now that the neck has settled a little bit it isn't as far off as I had thought..
anyways massive ICYBOMB behind the spoiler
(some photos are from my iphone, others are from my nikon d5200.. i'm sure you'll be able to suss what is what.. plus i haven't resized anything..)
► Show Spoiler
Note: I haven't repainted anything, but different light sources make a world of difference in the color of blue that a camera captures with this beast.
the last two shots I took this morning, braved -25C to get an outside shot.. but in the shade, wasn't gonna lay it in the snow to get a shot in the sun.

--
Stoked to have it 99% done, all that's left to do is the "easy" bit.
but waiting about another week for the neck to really get settled into string tension before i do an intonation & adjustment, as the truss may require a couple turns in one direction or another (but most of the bow has really settled down in the 5 days that the neck has been back on it with strings, at E2e tuning)
once the setup is done I plan on testing out how well my new nikon shoots video, so i'll do an demo as well.

Oh dude I actually have a Cyclone neck if you need it!

j/k. Came out very nice looking... but WTF, I never noticed those wholesale OEM pickups GFS sell don't have a row of adjustable polepieces before seeing the one installed on yours.

jamba72 wrote:interesting project..what about sanding the under pickguard curve more to the mustang form? It fits quite good on the upper horn and the control plate..the switching plate seems a bit too off for my taste, I´d stick in the 3way toggle again.nice color..
cheers
I agree, the body and pickguard need to conform. I'd keep that guard but modify the body (lotta work now that it's painted, I know).

The tort looks pretty good with that blue...I guess mint would look good as well. The secret to your aesthetic, IMHO, is the matching headstock. With that, you have lots more options for the color of your pickguard.

Have fun!

yeah I still have a sheet of mint guard material i'm looking into tracing this guard, but also ordering a tornado bridge and shaping it for that (i'll have to also make it a string through body...)
but for now i'm happy..
sadly the top middle screw can't go in, as i had slightly enlarged the pool route for a neck humbucker at some point.. so i could set in a screw but it'd just fall out.. (or i could glue in a screw top)

still not intonated et al. yet, but plugged it in yesterday and adjusted the pickup heights for equal sound levels (as much as i'm gonna get betweena single coil and a humbucker)
but notice a significant drop in volume in the middle position.
could be that the shielding i put in on the body might be simi-shorting out the middle position.. though in my mind that would mean no sound, not a drop in volume..

also contemplating a waterslide decal for the headstock..
but again that is a long term plan..
