Is that be 3 tone Sunburst? Is 1961 too early for that and it's 2 tone sunburst?
This might qualify as 3 tone sunburst:

Looks like 2 tone sunburst to me.

Err... I don't know to be honest... and not sure how I could work that out.

There is a red in there but it is fairly subtle, does that then qualify ? .... Hide the red case fur with your hands and it's a bit more apparent. colour side by side does weird things to the eye.

If you want more pics etc... just let me know. These pics are quite old. cheers....

it's probably a 3-tone burst, but the red's faded. red is more sensitive to UV so tends to fade quicker in certain circumstances.

Spotted this earlier, a colour I hadn't previously seen:

1978 Telecaster International series 'Taupe':

I didn't even realise there was an international telecaster series, I am only familiar with the strats. They came in taupe too but the photos look very different:

Taupe is 'Sahara Taupe'. The international series colours were on strats, teles, P and J basses. There was also a Mustang on ebay in Morocco Red recently. The first example I've seen that wasn't one of the standard four models.

Here's a more representative pic of Sahara Taupe on a strat and what looks like the same tele. I think it's closer to the strat than the tele, though.

I've seen a Firestorm Red strat in person, it had an ebony fretboard, too. It looked class. Those are the best pics I've seen online, though. Will definitely use them.

was that finish only on the pluses? and is that tele ebony fretboard, too?

Maybe the ebony fretboard one was a deluxe.

Is there anywhere where we can see what colours you have/need?

How about these 1983/84 'Bowling ball' finishes:

"There were actually three different marble swirl styles: one that is predominantly red, one that is predominantly blue, and one that is a predominantly gold. Only 250 of these guitars were made: 108 in the red-black-white swirl; 105 in the blue-black-yellow swirl; and, 37 in the gold-silver-white swirl. 50 Telecasters using these finishes were also produced: 21 red, 21 blue, and 8 gold. The man behind the marble finish was Darren Johansen, an outside vendor who developed the process and showed it to Fender. By the time the initial 300 instruments were made, Fender-CBS was in the process of becoming Fender-FMIC and further use of the finish wasn't pursued.

I'm working on a site but I'm not quite there yet. I've a couple more technical things to sort before I 'launch' it. I'll grab a list of what I'm after, though.

I had an aim this year of making a website as a way of making myself relearn some computer nerd things and learn a lot of new stuff, too. And I also wanted to make something of the color chart I started previously, so combining the two seemed a good idea. Hopefully within a couple of weeks I have a live website and can make some more progress with it.

My aim is to have a stock image for each colour (where possible) and then one or two more to show it in a more natural sense. If there's a lot of variation, like with the bowling ball finish I'll have more images to show it.

These images I have a good resolution image for but no stock image

These colours I only have a poor resolution image for

That isn't entirely up to date, I know that since sorting them like that I've found better pictures for Jupiter Blue and Cadmium Orange, but it's mostly there. Hopefully I'll post the website soon and it will be easier to do that sort of thing.

A Fender Japan colour, it looks pretty close to what Midnight Blue was. Maybe it's the same thing but it's hard to tell from the photos I've seen.
