The pickguard is flamed maple painted to look like petrified wood. The coprolite turned out to not be an option.

Robert, I live in the US. I was having a difficult time finding a specific Mercedes colour, so I thought I would save myself a lot of trouble by ordering online. There has been some sort of error with my order though; I am not sure what happened. I ordered it from paintscratch.com.

This guitar needs some funky tuner buttons to complete the Flintstone thing!

I was able to cancel my paint order, and I now have some "white/blue white" acrylic lacquer paint which I am happier with.

I have one question: which brand of clear coat would you guys recommend for a flat finish?

Edit: Now that I think about it -- dodgedartdave, haven't you used Tamiya paint before? Do you think their flat clear coat would be okay over Dupli Color acrylic lacquer? It seems as if the Tamiya stuff is actually some sort of acrylic lacquer, but I am not sure.

Ya, it would be ok. It's a bit of a pain in the ass cause of the size of the can. If it was me, I'd try Deft Clear Laquer in Satin, then just put it on lightly. You can get Deft in Home Depot or Lowes.

I have the colour on the body. I did a bit of relicing, and now I am waiting for the clear coat to arrive. I went with the Tamiya flat clear which no one carries around here, so I had to order it from Tower Hobbies. It should arrive in a few days.

The paint is finished, and I just applied the copper tape. Final assembly is next.

You definately have a one of a kind there. I think the whole body needs to be lightly relic'd

It actually is -- it just doesn't show in the pictures very well. Some of the paint was removed all the way down the bare wood, which I yellowed a bit; and some of the top layer of the paint has been chipped a bit so the white primer is showing. The paint barely has a blue tint to it, so the white primer showing is a great small detail, I think.

That's the most heavily reliced area. There are various other chips in other areas. I put a thin layer of paint on it, so I'm sure some natural chipping will occur easily.

Haha, yes.

This guitar is gonna look particularly great when it gets even more relic'd and when the chrome rusts and oxidizes. It reminds me of the type of guitar that you would see in a video where they dig it up and then start rock'n.
