Anyone know whether this is going to be a CIJ like the Mascis? Also wondering if Fender are planning to release this as "reliced"? Not really a huge fan of relics per se, but it could mean a (relatively) affordable nitro-finished Jag, which I am all for.

i may catch hell for this, but technically wes borland is not a bad guitar player at all...
just in a shitty band because he can make alot of money doing so.

yeah, i think he was the sole point of interest in that otherwise vacuous joke of a band.

aye. he's master shredder. i saw his band 'big dumb face' support les claypool in the late 90's and it was nothing short of technical, funny, metalgloomz.

that guitar looks rad as fuck too.

EDIT: upon closer inspection, maybe not as cool as i thought, but still reasonably classy.

I'm guessing you're working/teaching out of a guitar shop? I'm not looking for credentials here... no cock-measuring (I couldn't teach anyone to play, so it'd be silly to call you out)... but I am going to make some assumptions, please correct me if I'm wrong :P

I don't really see students approaching teachers with "teach me to play..." as really being much of a measure of a guitar player's quality... students often don't know shit, or have somewhat limited experiences (gross generalization), and only know a handful of players/contributions, and generally only withing their favorite genres. I'm willing to wager that you don't get too many students asking you to teach them any Quintette du Hot Club de France (Django Reinhardt), Chet Atkins, Pat Metheney, etc. songs either... but they are all undeniably phenomenal guitar players with tremendous influence. Not saying Marr is in their league, but ya know, the measure is off :P

For fuck's sake, Fender gave Avril Lavigne a signature guitar even if it was a Squire model. I would think that Marr's credentials far out weigh Avril fucking Lavigne's contributions to music and guitar playing to warrant a model named after him. And given the fact that he plays a Jaguar that has been modded to create his unique sound instead of just putting a checker board pickguard on a Tele, I'd say he is more than proved himself to be honored by Fender.
With all that said, I dig the looks and and am curious as to what the switching options sound like, but will never pay for signature guitar, ever.

I never said the guy couldnt play.. he plays well but not to the point of Django or Chet and he sure has not changed the face of music as we know it (ie Lennon, Hendrix, Cobain, Corgan, Marley, Space Ace and Rhoads)
The most heard names as far as "can you show me how ______ plays" are Cobain, Lennon, Atkins, Hendrix and SRV... (those are the ones that come to mind right now, there are tons of others). Yeah I teach out of a musical instrument retail store, and no im not saying Im even in the same galaxy of a "great" guitar player. I do my best with my playing and teaching the instruments, its all one can do.

Would also just like to say that Marr was never a part of Talking Heads, he did do session work with them and toured as a guitar player for a short time.

eh.. wouldnt go that far with Corgan, I just had a teenager ask me to show him "disarm". The Pumpkins did change alot of things that were going on..... Corgan and Iha made a Fuzzbox + Ebow pure heaven to listen to.

With all that said, Corgan is an @ss and there is no way around that. He has also been on tons of mag covers, tons of how to's in guitar mags, did fender workshops on tone/tech, sold too many plat albums etc etc. The Pumpkins are legendary and its mostly due to Corgans way of getting into the heart of a song or sound (or his way of getting into our pocketbooks haha).

i agree, def in the back of the list.. if they were all on a playground then Corgan would be the kid that was stuck on top of the slide.
