See, that's what I like about the mean 90s. The bridge is still nice and spiky and a bit harsh sounding, but still sounds girthy and big. Then, I have my aerodyne tele which has a P-90 in the neck and the bridge is properly "make your ears bleed" harsh.

I have a set of dream 180s on my way to have a go at them. I might get the 90s if I can find a guitar to drop them in.

Its a big ask for any floating system to stay in tune with alternate tunings.
Hence the Drop D mechanism developed by EVH.

yeah this is why jaguar trems are top tier. looking to spend some time with a bigsby today. generally i think they look gash but on that gretsch it definitely works. most i've played i think have been set up badly

tried out the gretsch just now. they only had the gold one in store. very nice sound, really dig the size and look too, but the neck profile is very chunky, almost U shaped. one thing i will say is that the bass strings sounded very dull like flat wounds. i thought this was old strings, however it seems this is normal for filtertrons? that is not good either

it also had the very same egregious neck joint as that Vintage SG. i think it may be a deal breaker, but when all's said and done i don't use the higher frets too much anyway. had to come home cos tracys family are coming over but will be going out again later to try some more.

so i guess don't know what i'm looking for really. i'm just gonna try out a load of things. it may be that i still go for a nice playing and looking twin humbucker guitar and then add some filtertrons or p90 from there

Aside from the heel, that white SG looks pretty cool. I just googled Graham Oliver - he was the guitarist in Saxon. I guess someone had to be.

yeah the heel is ugly but i don't think it's much different from a bolt on guitar.

tried out a lot of the lower end gretsch models and they all sound bad. the problem is how imbalanced the eq is across strings. lovely chimey bright treble strings and muddy bass strings, no matter how new the strings are. i was willing them to be good but it didn't work. i did like the bigsbys however.

i then looked for p90 guitars. the ONLY one they had in stock was a jim adkins telecaster. it sounded amazing and reinforced that i really want a p90 equipped guitar.

so i think i'm going to go back to basics and do things on the cheap. i'm after one of these

I liked their early heavy stuff but then they went to America and came back all glammed up playing Cock Rock. Apparently, Oliver started using Vintage guitars after he had an old Gibson SG stolen on a tour. Affordable and reliable was his line if I remember right, also less to insure.
