Nope. Regardless of how much your modifications might improve the gutiar, it will sell for less as a result of them. This goes for pickups as well.

I actually love the sound of the jag-stang neck pickup. The bridge humbucker I'm not so sure on, but the neck pickup is lovely.

It sounds great to my ears, and it sounds like what I want a neck pickup to sound like for blues, so I'm happy.

You may be put off the SSL 3 due to the fact it is a 17k single......Thats louder that a JB

Yeah, it doesn't sound like what I want from my Jag-stang. I like the fact that it's a nice, easy to play, not particularly powerful guitar. It seems well mannered or something.

As a big metallica fan, I like powerful guitars so I originally played it safe and wired in a JB and that, but then I got an EMG 81 due to too much noise, not enough power

Right. I'd have thought a different guitar would have made more sense, but there you go.

New Hetfield ESP is real ugly because gibson had a problem with it so they had to extend the wings + I'm not into pointy shaped guitars or 'superstrats'

I really like the jagstang because of the trem and the neck.

The trem is easy to live with like a stoptail, moves as much as a kahler and stays in tune like a floyd

This is the truth... it doesn't matter if a lot of people dislike the jagstang pickups, the value WILL go down if you sell it with different pickups.

I am doing this with my guitar and my body and I don't give a crap about the value because I ain't selling it any time soon.

I guess I feel some sort of solidarity with mcconnachiea because I bought a JS when I was 15 and had the same crazy ideas about modding it. I thought It would be a good idea to rewire it so it worked better, ie neck-both-bridge, series-split-parallel on the switches etc. Really fucking stupid idea, seeing as I can't solder for shit and my eyes work independently of each other. I ended up having to shell out £50 to get all the wiring redone to the local tech. And I've stayed away since (except for the bitching white robroe I put on the neck pup to hide the wonky looking poles). Listen to the guys, they all make sense. Shortscale is always right. If metal's your thing buy a jaguar HH or a jagmaster, they both come in black.

I've done most of that already, just no coil splitting.

You guys are probably right about paint, I'll see if anybody else can do it but If I can't, then I'll practice on a few bits of wood and then do the real thing.

I just have no tone/volume controls, thats all thats with the pickguard and roller knobs. I've also managed to get pots that fit in the space (will need routing though)

I know mcconachiea from over JS as some may have gathered, he's a decent lad but can be stubborn and he is young with it. No crime. Although i strongly disagree with any major mofifications of vintage or rare guitars as most here do, lets remember being in that position. He will either listen or he wont, let him make his own mistakes.
What is a little disappointing is seeing grown men giving a 15 year old kid a hard time, at times i feel some allowances should be made. This lad is'nt much older than my daughter, if he wants to engrave fucking skullz on his JS good luck to him. It would be a cuntish thing to do but lets lighten up a bit.

I'm like ElCapitan, I was 16 over at JS.com when I got my Jag-Stang, and I didn't last long there at all. I was here straight away, and I had plenty of plans to modify my JS and do permanent damage to it. I probably would've if I had the resources, at one point I even contacted Aug about sending my guitar to him to get him to do it (that'd have been great). So everything I'm saying here is from the standpoint of someone who wishes there was someone like me to talk to me back when I was like him.

If you only want to paint it and route it, I still suggest you buy a new body. Sell yours, you can get about £100 for it in its current state I'd imagine. Then go wild. Get a new body, do your routing, then paint it up nice. Don't waste your time modifying yours. Please.
