See now I can't look at those pickups without thinking of Vegas jumpsuit legs...

I picked up my guitar from the shop today. TheY did a fret level and a set up. They reused the original nut but cut the slots to the proper height. I just told them to do what needs to be done to get the neck to play correct. It is nice to have a shop you can trust and gets what you like. Now it plays nice and I am digging the sounds. Big smile on my face!

Time to think finish. I have become attached to it's patched work appearance, but for the sake of the project, I need to give it a proper finish. Getting ready to lay down some primer.

Please give color suggestions now so I can change my mind from cream (which I like, but already have two cream guitars).

Keep in mind that it has a mint pickgaurd and black knobs and switches.

More specific please. My dreams were squashed earlier when the lovely mrs. cur pointed out that grabber orange looked like home depot orange. I really want it to be orange. Like creamsicle orange. Give me a swatch color to look at.

I just purchased a can of diplicolor bahama blue metallic tonight on the suggestion of my son when we were at the auto parts store. I will shoot some and see how it looks with mint green.

i shit you not, but the official porsche name for that color is "911 GT3RS Orange." it's also called 911 GT3RS Yellow in other circles, but my porsche book says that's the name of it.

the cayman above is a custom one-off based on my research. i can get you a legit paint code/dupont combi if you're serious. i could probably get my old boss to whip up a can of it. not spray, but for HVLP.

Just do a better job finishing than I did.

Did a little priming today. Got a good base coat on. Used a high-build primer. Then sanded to 600 grit to a good smooth finish and shot another coat.
From what I can gather the paint code for the porsche is L8C6 or maybe just 8C6.

Yeah, I have been slammed at work, but in a good way. I can't keep up with the great stuff going on. Anyway, I had a chance to tear the guitar down and hit it with primer. It is really slick and ready for real paint. There is a little body shop down the street and I am thinking about popping in and seeing how much it would take to hit it with paint. I did find a place that sells the color in a spray can. Or I could pick up a mini hvlp at Northern Tools and Equipment and do it myself. But car paint is nasty and I don't have a respirator. Might go the spray can route but it's not that cheap.

You shouldn't have trouble finding orange from an auto shop. Hugger orange is the most sought after of all the oranges.

The paints are the same, whether you buy them in a spray can or in a pint can for use in a spray gun. You should really wear a half-mask respirator whenever you spray any of this stuff in any fashion. Toxicity varies, but cumulatively, it will make you suffer down the line.

I vote for Gulf Orange, BTW.

I just ordered a spray can of 997 GT3RS Orange 8C6. Should be here in a week. I have the guitar sanded down to 800 with the grey primer, but I am going to shoot a coat of white primer before the base coat of orange. I also ordered the clear.

Waiting on the 997 GT3RS Orange paint and clear coat to get here. I want good and fast coverage with the spray paint, so I have the body one coat of white primer. It almost looks like a weak daphne blue over the grey primer

Incredible work man! This reminds me of a Univox UC-2 I found in a pile of garbage up near Harlem, NYC. I had had dreams of finding a mustang in a hardshell case for free, trying hard to "manifest" it, and sure enough I missed my stop on the train one day cause I was about to beat my all-time high score on tetris, and so I had to walk a path to work that I'd never been on. Low and behold, imagine my excitement upon finding a smallish rectangular hardshell case sandwiched in between a bunch of trash bags! It wasn't quite a mustang, but I fixed her up, gave her a good set up and sold it to a girl who would eventually become really good friends with my lady. used that $ to buy an MIJ jaguar, sold all the japanese guts, and somehow made enough money to buy all AVRI parts & Antiquity II jag pups. fixed it, and sold that for a pretty penny, and got myself an IBM AVRI jaguar for a steal of a price. Long story short, this thread reminds me of how I basically got a $1700 guitar for free.

Anyway, enough of a diversion, can't wait to see this thing finished!
