Got a Bronco off eBay. Gave it my 'guitar guy' to make it nice for me. He's taken the bridge/trem apart, and reckons there is severe wear, and some collar missing. Just wanted to check with the experts before I go pointing fingers. See pics HERE

So, the trem collar is missing?

Present in this pic;

Absent here;

Without string tension, the bridge plate will rattle about on the posts.
Maybe this has been mistaken for 'severe wear'?

You don't need the collar as such, though you obviously can't mount the trem arm without it. :lol:

I wish I could see your picture. There are only three things I would call a collar on a Bronco bridge. The arm holder, the bushing below the rear height adjustment screw (so the screw does not turn into the top bridge plate) and the spring retainer that the rear height screw screws to below the lower bridge plate. I havn't looked on the net for pictures. I'm sure there are some around.

Here's some pics I had posted at one time. Maybe they will help indentify what you're missing.

Looks like you have some spring related parts missing.
Might be worth ordering THIS from ebay?

Nah, I asked him because I spied they weren't in the photos. He said they are all there. Cheers anyway!

Sounds like assembly issue then.

So what is not working? If you have all the parts it should work, unless the setup is bad. When I got mine this summer it had a good setup and looks like this :

Here is a chart on how it should function:

Can you swap a Jaguar/JM spring for a Bronco spring? Does it use the same parts? I think the Bronco spring is bigger.

Here are some Bronco Springs:

They are not the same size, though it appears Leo took the idea from the Jaguar and just used a larger spring.

I have an America Jag/Jazz Trem and a Bronco Spring laying around:

Again, thanks for all the replies. I think what he was talking about was the trem posts (pivot screw). You can see in this pic that it is extremely worn....

Image

I think it was so worn that it was no longer operating the adjusting the height, and the bridge could. In this next pic, they've been swapped out for a similar style bolt that should now adjust properly.

Anyway, he's now happy that everything is operating as it should. He has an engineer friend who's going to make up a trem bar for it, and I should hopefully have it back in a week or so.

Could you find out where he found that replacement bolt?
I'd like to buy a few sets. The info would be extremely handy
for those of us with Bronco bridges in pieces.
