So ive had this 69 reissue for some time now. the girl needs a makeover.. its the sonic blue with tort pickguard ( which will be changed this week into a self reliced mint green pickguard) anyways i want to paint my headstock to match the body
How feasible would the this task be? i dont have any expierience with painting or refinishing but its only a small thing of wood how hard can it be? please INPUT WOULD BE HELPFUL!!

Just be super careful

Don't do it! Unless you're a pro. Yeah. Pros can do it.

If you're going to match the headstock to the body, you'd probably be better served refinishing the whole thing, that way you know that the paint is the same color, with the same clearcoat, and the same aging.

And logos can be a pain especially if you are new to them. (If you wanna use one)

I like black headstocks and I don't particularly care about logos, so that is a pretty easy job. Take the neck off, cover up with tape and newspaper everything you are not painting rough up the finish with stand paper, paint then a couple of layers of clear coat giving it plenty of time to dry.


If you want a matched headstock then I totally agree with Steve, very hard to do unless you are refinishing the body as well because there are lots of variables.

What could go wrong

It's very easy. The most important step is to make sure you get really good painter's tape, so that you'll end up with a clean paint line.
